Summary

Destroying other people isn't going to make you feel any better.

That suggests you've never destroyed an enemy before. It's actually quite fulfilling.

EMMY

Elliott Springs has small-town values, cobblestone streets, perfect scenery. These are things I don't care about. What I do care about: Revenge. And no matter how compelling I find Liam Doherty—the guy focused on saving Elliott Springs—I'm going to get it.

LIAM

What do you call a woman who wants to destroy everything you love, yet the sight of her sets you on fire? Nemesis or future wife—and since she can't wait to leave California, I guess I know which one she is.

Emerson Hughes wants to be the villain in our town's history, and the more I learn about her past here, the more I understand it.

I wanted to save Elliott Springs.

I think I want to save her even more.

So, so good

This book was so dang good! I absolutely adore these two and their witty barbs at other that are absolutely hilarious and keep you waiting for the next one. You definitely get the laughs in this one, but you also get deep emotion. There are some bits that might be triggering to some, including bullying, weight shaming, and absolutely terrible parenting, but I swear it's all worth it. It all really ties this one together and makes Emmy all the more relatable. And then there's Liam. A reformed player, he's sweet as sin and hits all those marks that will make you swoon. He's so thoughtful, and the ways he stands up for Emmy are just prefect. With these two, you will definitely find yourself giggling at how adorable they are or fanning yourself over the heat. The epilogue was absolutely perfect, a testament to how perfect these two are together, and will leave you with your heart feeling full.

I listened to this one on audiobook and devoured it in a single sitting. I've said it countless times, but I will never skip listening to something Samantha Brentmoor narrates. Her voice is great in the sense that it will fit any genre, any character, and be perfect. Alongside JF Harding, they truly brought these characters to life and made me want to keep listening until the story was complete. Highly, highly recommend this one!

Elizabeth O Roark Destroyed my heart in the best way!

Holy angst! 𝙴𝚕𝚒𝚣𝚊𝚋𝚎𝚝𝚑 𝙾'𝚁𝚘𝚊𝚛𝚔 has done it again. She has 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘺𝘦𝘥 my heart and pieced it back together again, bit by audio loving bit. This one was a wild ride for sure!

This series is my addiction, so I've been patiently waiting for this addition since I finished the last book. And, it was so worth the wait to see Emmy & Liam's story unfold! I related to Emmy on so many levels.

The bullying she dealt with as a child really hit home for me. But watching her find herself, seeing her seek destruction on the small town that left her destroyed, seeing her change, watching her fall for Liam....it was a beautifully emotional story.

Liam is a swoon worthy character! He wants to protect the town he loves, but when Emmy is around, things are different. There is instant chemistry, there is a push & pull you can literally 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 between them. It was absolutely beautiful to see him with Emmy!

𝑆𝑎𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑡ℎ𝑎 𝐵𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑚𝑜𝑜𝑟 did a truly beautiful job with Emmy. The pain of the bullying is masterfully done, the vulnerability of fighting against an attraction is felt! Her voice was smooth and perfect for Emmy! 𝐽.𝐹. 𝐻𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔 is in my top five for male narrators and he nailed it. He truly brought Liam to life in the best of ways! His voice has a tone that instantly captivates and, in duet fashion, he and 𝑆𝑎𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑡ℎ𝑎 were a powerhouse duo!

If you love spice, all the angst, beautifully emotional story lines and epic characters, grab this one up today! You will not be sorry! Though, it's best to read the series in order to fall even harder!

Amazing story! Love this!

This series is one of my favorites by Elizabeth O'Roark. Fabulous characters, small town gossip and all the feels that go with it. This one especially had my attention as Emmy began her quest. After years of torture growing up in Elliott Springs, Emmy is back. Why you ask? She is on a mission to destroy that small town feel and take down all her enemies while she does it. The plans are in motion and they are strong, but will it be enough to give her the satisfaction she seeks? Liam loves his town. He loved growing up and now looks forward to raising his own family there. He is ready to take on Emmy, but she is doing something to his heart. Will he give in and let her win? This is a fantastic story as these two hash out the problems all while trying to resist the chemistry. Push pull passion is the best! I love that Emmy is the villain, not many authors will put the woman in that position, and her vehemence is on target! Liam is sweet, but his undertone of strength is always present. Plus some of our old friends come to visit, adding that feeling of friendship and community. Loved this story!

Add in the pick of narrators and this could not have been a better listen. Samantha Brentmoor and JF Harding are both favorites, and each brings in the flaws and perfections of each person. Brentmoor is Emmy, stubborn, ambitious and ready to take action. Harding is the quiet strength that is so attractive, not a pushover and ready to pounce! These two gave my ears a fantastic listen!

HUGE fan of this audiobook

Emmy did nottt have it easy as a kid, and we can see how it has affected her mindset as an adult. I really liked seeing Liam work her out of these negative mindsets (to the best of his ability of course). These two together had me smiling, even when I wanted to tear up, and I was rooting for them every step of the way! And the flashbacks…. UGH… the worst 🥲

The Summer I Destroyed You’s audiobook was absolutely elite. Samantha Brentmoor and JF Harding in duet style was simply magic to my ears. I have no notes, this was perfection. Highly recommend it if you’re looking to read this story!

Enjoyed it

The Summer I Destroyed You is book 4 in The Summer series. This is Emmy and Liam's story and it's one I won't soon forget.
When I started the novel I disliked Emmy however as we get more into the story that soon changed.
Emmy's backstory was heartbreaking and it turned her into this ruthless and cold hearted woman, who still had scars from her past.
I loved that Liam wasn't intimidated by her and absolutely loved that he stood up for her. But it was seeing him show her she was worthy and deserved to be loved was the highlight of it all.
As the story progressed I enjoyed seeing the evolution of their relationship. These two had the best sarcastic banter and unbelievable chemistry, and when the steam hit, it was scorching. This was a fantastic read and I would definitely recommend it.

🎧 I listened to the audiobook version which was narrated by Samantha Brentmoor & JF Harding. They were fantastic and their voices suited the characters. They had the right tone and pitch and really brought the story to life. It was a pleasure listening to them narrate this novel.

I love this series! | Incredible narration!

5⭐️ 3🌶️ 5🎧

Producer: Lyric Audiobooks
Narrators: Samantha Brentmoor + JF Harding
Narration type: duet
Writing perspective: first person, dual POV
Standard length: 8:31
Listening speed: 2x

Tropes: small town, enemies to lovers, slow burn, grumpy x sunshine (she’s the grump), he falls first, protective golden retriever, feisty black cat

📖 This series has me in a complete chokehold. I LOVE Elizabeth’s writing — it is so packed full of angst and emotion — and she writes the BEST black cat FMCs! I am Kate’s, from The Summer You Found Me, biggest fan, and Emerson is just another FMC to add my list! She is easy to dislike if you don’t take the time to understand her, or banter with her — and lucky for us Liam did nothing! The banter in this book is really next level exceptional! The tension and teasing between these two was so good. This was definitely more of an “I want so badly to hate you but I don’t actually hate you” situation. I am already so excited for the last book but so sad that this series is almost over.

🎧 I have loved the narration in every single book in this series, and that is largely due to the incredible Samantha Brentmoor!! She has absolutely crushed it every single time as these amazing FMCs, and brought such powerful performances bringing each unique character to life. This time, as Emerson, she nailed the bratty NYC hotshot coming back to the small town she loathes. She was also amazing in the more vulnerable moments dealing with her past trauma and her parents. And wow the banter, the comedic timing was perfection!
JF Harding is def a more recent fav of mine, though I feel like now that I’ve been listening to him in nearly every third book for the last 6-8 months I can’t really say that recent anymore! He was amazing in this, the perfect Liam! He is so believable as a golden retriever character, and he can really make me swoon! His range of voices is excellent and he really just puts a smile oj my face the entire way!

Awesome Story & Narration🎧Captivating & Heartfelt

Elizabeth O’Roark continues to wow me with another amazing novel set in her “Summer” series. She is such a gifted author, and I have said this before, is incredibly skilled at evoking emotions and taking her readers and audiobook listeners on an unforgettable journey. Just from the title alone, I knew this would not be an easy story, and I was right in my assumption and we have a character, Emerson “Emmy” Hughes, who is really hard to like, that is until you see what made her the way she is, and what hardened her heart. Then there is Liam Doherty, a down to earth, good-natured guy who would take the shirt off of his back if he thought you needed it. When Emmy left Elliott Springs, she vowed to come back and make everyone pay for how they treated her. It has been her life's mission, and in her current position, she can do just that. She also had to return to help her mother, who was undergoing surgery for a knee replacement. Her mother was definitely not going to win the mother of the year award, ever, she was awful and I am not sure if I despised anyone as much as I despised her. Emmy is a keen business woman, full of sass and snark. She had hired Liam, a contractor, to do some work for her before coming back to town and they have been in contact, messaging back-and-forth and he put up with her snark, never letting her get under his skin, and actually got a kick out of it and gave as good as he got. When she arrives back in Elliott Springs, he continues to work on projects for her, including one at her mother’s house and it does not take long for him to see her, really see her and what she is up to, including ruining his plans to restore the town. Liam is such an admirable person, standing back to let her do her thing, despite knowing what she was up to and ruining his own plans for the town. The two want different things in life, with him looking to settle down, and her looking to climb the corporate ladder and is using her revenge plot and Elliott Springs as her stepping stone. I loved all the layers of this story, its depth and the complexity of the characters, and as always, the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. This story captivated my attention the entire time and has plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. Elizabeth O’Roark, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Samantha Brentmoor and JF Harding are superbly talented voice artists and they did an amazing job of bringing these characters to life, humanizing them, giving each a voice that was fitting and believable. Brentmoor killed it as Emmy, grasping every aspect of her personality, her snark, coldheartedness and determination, growing as her character grew. Harding was perfectly calm and coolheaded, with his bossy protective side emerging at the right time. Both were just as amazing performing the roles of the secondary characters, too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These two are entertaining storytellers, their voices complemented each other and their performance elevated the story to another level. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

Another great installment

Audiobook review:  Narrated by Samantha Brentmoor and JF Harding
4.5 stars for story / 5 stars for performance

I have loved each of the books in this series, but this one is one of my favorites. The way Elizabeth O'Roark rings every emotion out during the course of this story was masterful. Emerson, while technically the villain of this story, had my whole heart. It was amazing how, even though we should hate her for her mission, the only person in this story more likable was Liam. If ever there was a viable reason for a revenge plot, Emerson has it. The emotional trauma this poor woman faced as a child was, at times, difficult to read, and that is coming from a dark romance reader. I truly believe part of the reason for that is attributed to the author and her story, and part in the masterful narration. Liam, the cinnamon roll MMC who turns alpha protective on a dime is just about as swoony as they come. Whenever his POV was up, the conflict he was feeling toward Emmy and her seemingly blase attitude toward him came through in spades. One thing I truly appreciated in this installment is the explanation and closure we get when all the unanswered questions are explained.

Samantha Brentmoor did an outstanding job narrating everything from Emerson's top boss attitude to the painfully emotional scenes from her past. The way she was able to bring this character to life had my heartbreaking for her as if she was my best friend. JF Harding, who for me is one of my favorite narrators in an alpha male role, really captured Liam's soft side perfectly. The duet-style narration added another aspect that brought this audiobook up to top tier level.
