About this listen

On the darkest night of winter, can he bring light to her wounded heart?

Scarred by loss, Irina warrior Renata has held the world at a distance. Fighting the Grigori and protecting humanity are her goals, but her heart remains frozen to the bonds of family and love. Only one scribe, Maxim of Riga, has managed to see through Renata's armor.

On the darkest night of winter, in the halls of her ancestral home, Renata is forced to face her past. Can a fierce storm and a stubborn scribe coax her back to life, or will she retreat into duty forever?

This was a short but beautiful story about Rene and Max. Rene was brittle and full of anger and it would have been easy to dislike her given her penchant to kill first and ask questions later but Elizabeth showed you why she was so in the most empathetic way. She also showed the softer and kinder side of Rene. She is a protector and a warrior who has hidden her kind heart behind many shields so no one can ever hurt her again. Max is persistent and patient with a heart full of love for Rene. He tries to show her that they deserve to be happy together and that love surpasses everything.
One of the most important things for me is that while there was a lot of underlined pain and sorrow, I came away feeling lots of love, peace and contentment.

A short story that said more than many long books
