Critic reviews

"This is the relationship guide you won't get from a one-line Instagram post, and that you absolutely need if you want to date without losing yourself." (Megan Jayne Crabbe)

"In a world where dating advice seems to come either too late, too confusing or too strict, The Selfish Romantic makes dating fun again by reminding you that you are the one to prioritize and fall in love with. I wish I had this book when I was younger and dating! A book for any age trying to enter into partnership." (Kenzie Brenna)

"If you've ever had questions about dating and if it was about you, The Selfish Romantic is here to walk you through those tough times to remind you of your worth and give you answers to questions you sometimes long to get from the partner involved. It's okay to feel lost at times in the dating world although it's not okay to blame yourself. Michelle allows you to identify what means something to you and how to lift your worth up by finding the love for oneself first." (Hayley Hasselhoff)

Excellent guide:goes far beyond usual selfhelp

Excellent look at contemporary dating and how to navigate it. I'm a therapist and I read this to see would it be a book that I recommend to clients who are struggling with the do's and don't's of dating. I'll be adding this and The Joy of Being Selfish to my recommended reading list.

Elman goes beyond the usual bounds of self help rhetoric and looks at core skills like emotional regulation, communication, and boundaries. She also looks at what you really want, including the valid choice to be single.

There's helpful summaries and exercises at the end of each chapter which act as an excellent jumping off point for anyone wanting to explore more.

The book I really needed to listen to.

Everything! Each chapter was useful even when it was not quite relevant to me currently. Lots of great tips, scenarios and advice given. I am going to relisten again.

A striking listen and a hopeful book.

This is why I love Michelle Elman. This book teaches you how to show up for yourself and that you can change your mindset around dating and how you view yourself. This book made me feel validated, hopeful and very emotional. It gave me tools to believe in myself. I will definitely relisten to this in the future. The only bad thing about this book is that it should've been longer!
