Summary

In a last-ditch attempt to secure an investor for an app she’s developed, Rome Foster travels to her namesake city hoping her luck is going to change. Just as she’s about to pitch her life’s work, she meets the charming and captivating Nadine, a high-end escort who shocks Rome by flirting with her. Rome is straight, but Nadine sparks up a fire in her so strong that it seems impossible to extinguish.

Nadine Costa is pleased with the way her life is going. She lives in a fantastic apartment in the city she loves, and her lucrative job provides the funds she needs to support her expensive passion: perfume-making. When Rome crosses her path, she knows she’s never smelled anything quite so exquisite in her life.

Rome is a loner and doesn’t let people in, but when an incident occurs and Nadine steps in to save her, she realizes her feelings go deeper than just lust. Neither of them was looking for something more than physical, but when the stars are aligned, it’s hard to escape destiny!

"to love and justice"

my favourite city just got better, impulse buy at the title I'm not disappointed
lise gold creates a wonderfully romantic story of two loners, an introvert and an extrovert, best parts are those set where tourists rarely visit, the Rome of now.
encompassing workplace harassment and carbon footprint, are woven into nadine and romes' story to great effect, not just a romance, but thought provoking on how we treat our planet and each other
tj richards gives a great narrative performance to add to this marvellous book.

A sweet romance......

A sweet romance. I liked the characters 'but', the narrator didn't match the authors portrayal of Nadine with Nadine's voice. Nadine was portrayed by the author as a beautiful, feminine woman; the narrator was not able to convey that . The ability of the narrator to transport us into the audio is important, so often it seems the narrator cannot give us two main characters who sound 'womanly' !

Wonderful narration of an excellent story

While I’d needed a little time to get know and appreciate Nadine when I first read The Scent of Rome, I liked her immediately this time around. I didn’t feel as overwhelmed when listening to the audiobook, and I wonder if it’s because I already knew the story, the characters, the atmosphere, or if it comes from the nature of audiobooks. As paradoxical as it may seem, when I read, I hear the sounds the author conjures. When listening to a narrated book, there’s no background noise. All there is is the voice. It falls entirely to the narrator to bring everything to life, the characters obviously but also the environment they exist in. And that’s the difference between a good narrator, who will make listening nice and enjoyable, and an excellent one, who will breathe life into the narration. TJ Richards falls into the second category.

The voice TJ Richards gave Nadine didn’t sound like the one I had imagined for her but it still worked perfectly. And Rome’s voice, in particular when she tells her best friend about Nadine, gave me goosebumps. I think what impressed me most is all the tiny nuances, especially the vulnerability TJ Richards manages to inject. Nothing is sexier than a strong woman allowing her vulnerability to show or a vulnerable woman finding her strength. We get both from both women in this novel.

So Sensual!

A lovely story with beautiful and interesting characters and all of this in one of the most beautiful, exciting and sensual cities in the world.
I read the book within 9 hours, because the love story between Rome and Nadine grabbed me immediately and never let go.
They are so different in nature and yet with so much in common are these two wonderfully mature characters.
Their chemistry is incredible from the start and the profession of a perfumer contributes to the sensuality ... the fact how often Nadine sniffs Rome‘s skin is really sexy and at the same time so gentle and intimate and right from the start! This story left me with such a good and warm feeling.
Wow. I love it!
