Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

In a disintegrating and increasingly lawless land, a young man is travelling north.

Ben is a young painter from the crowded, turbulent city. For six months, his fiancée Cara has been living on the remote island of Sanctuary Rock, the property of millionaire philanthropist Sir John Pemberley. Now she has decided to break off their engagement and stay there for good.

Ben resolves to travel to the island to win Cara back. But the journey there is a harsh and challenging one, and when he does arrive, a terrible shock awaits him.

As Ben begins to find his way around Pemberley's perfect island, he knows he must also discover—what has made Cara so determined to throw her old life away? And is Sanctuary Rock truly a second Eden, as the mysterious Sir John claims—or a prospect of hell?

By the Sunday Times best-selling author of The Last Day, this high-concept thriller will provoke and grip you from the very first moment.

Fantastic, kept me hooked from the first till the last chapter. Also love when books are read by their author, makes everything so clear.

Another Banger from Andrew Hunter Murray

I finished reading The Last Day two days ago and, desperate for more reading of the same level, I downloaded The Sanctuary. Another novel I couldn't bear to be away from and have finished it within two days.

Hunter-Murray is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. His writing style is articulate and educated, whilst remaining easy to read (and easy to lose yourself in).

Never before have I had goosebumps across my entire body when reading the last page of a novel.

Bravo Andy 👏

Awful

Two mistakes! This book shouldn’t have been written and the author shouldn’t have been the narrator!

Wonderful Book

I absolutely loved this book. The premise was fascinating, the writing really excellent and the characters nicely developed. A very rewarding page turner.

Weak follow up

I really enjoyed AHM's first novel but I almost gave up on this one. An interesting premise but let down by an excess of expositional dialogue which seems clumsy and the narration isn't great either.

Boring

Finished this book so at least that’s something. I usually return half way through if I’m not into it but this just didn’t do it for me at all.
Found it quite boring, slow, and generally didn’t grab me.
Well narrated but felt the ultra posh voice didn’t do it any favours either. Sorry! 😬

Couldn’t wait to hear the next lines…

This is such a strange and, in places, creepy, story.
Unusual to read/listen to a book where I’m not particularly rooting for any of the main characters.
They each have things to like and dislike about their personalities. Nonetheless, as I was listening, I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next.
There are so many mysterious characters and happenings, just as I thought I was getting the measure of one or two of them the author would take me on a hairpin bend, smashing my theories and making me want to spend ‘Just ten more minutes.’
If you like a spooky mystery and being creeped out by stories then this might be right up your street.
I’ll be thinking about some of the themes from the book for a long while after this.
*Shudders*
Really looking forwards to more from Andrew Hunter Murray.

Gripping fun

This is a real page turner or whatever the audio book equivalent is, the story reminds me of 1984 but slightly less bleak! Very pleased I purchased this book and smashed through it in 2 days constantly wanting to know what was coming next. Looking forward to reading to his next books
