Summary
Expedition leader Hiram Kane is in Japan when the storm of the century hits. He joins the rescue mission as flash floods cause chaos, death and destruction.
Yakuza boss Katashi Goto is retiring from the mob. Before he does, there is one more thing to achieve: revenge over a centuries old enemy.
When their two very different worlds collide, Kane is forced to make a choice. He has always known honour is worth fighting for. When challenged by Katashi, he has to decide if it is also worth dying for.

A great story made even better in audio
Adventure novels wouldn't normally be a genre I am attracted to however I listened to this book on a long drive and it kept me on the edge of my seat.....quite literally! The story was not only entertaining and well written, but educational at the same time. Loved it and can't wait to read the next adventure of Hiram Kane.

brilliantly written and narrated.
This is a brilliant story which kept me on the edge of my seat. The narration was totally compelling. would definitely recommend.

Great story, reasonable narrattion
I really enjoyed the story (reading along with kindle). It moved along quickly, interesting plot good characters. Narration I felt was good at times but a little average in others, a little staccato in delivery at times it jarred a little.
Otherwise emotions were expressed well, accents and characters acted out well too.
All in all a good audio of a well written book.

This story starts off a bit slow. It wasn’t nearly as enjoyable as the first book because it’s mostly just action. It lacks the backstory or compelling characters of the first book. It also lacks any logic.
The first book was in some remote village with corrupt officials who had been paid off by the mafia. While that’s similarly the case here, much of the plot of this novella could have been avoided or made simpler. While there wouldn’t be any story, in that case, a story that’s total nonsense is no better in my opinion.
What I did like about this story were the ups and downs, and the twists during the plot. It kept things interesting as everything could change at a moment’s notice. The combat scenes were also just as satisfying.
The narrator does an excellent job of narrating and bringing the novella to life. I find it strange he narrated in his own voice, then spoke in a British accent when the character actually talks though.

A Sharp Blast Of Action And Excitement.
Hiram Kane is back and trying to enjoy a little ‘down time’ after narrowly surviving a horrendous storm that claimed many lives. After risking his own life to save others he’s due some quiet time. However, trouble never seems far away from the intrepid adventurer as he soon locks horns with a Yakuza boss set of revenge and theft of a priceless Samurai suit of armor. Steven Moore hits the ‘tense action’ button right from the start and keeps it pressed all the way to the epilogue. This is a fun action story that flies by. An entertaining book.
Kenneth Bryant does a great job bringing the tense scenes to life and conveying the action as it unfolds.

A great surprise
This was my first audio book in a long while. And a different genre altogether than what i normally read. I enjoyed this audio book so much. I could jot stop listening and did so on every opportunity. Great interjections of history and the japanese language. Even the occasional swear word was so fitting. Great and easy listening!!

Great introduction to the series
This was the first book of Steve's I read and also the first one I listened to on audio book.
The prologue in the book introduces us to the ancient world of the Samurai and how they lived and had honour even among defeat.
The book then jumps to present day where Hiram is introduced during the Tsunami as he goes and rescues people who have been caught up in it. Hiram then moves on and the Tsunami follow him.
Eventually Hiram ends up on an island where there is a museum, which holds an ancient Samurai suit.
It is a this point we are introduced to some new characters, a Yakuza boss, Katashi Goto, and his minions. The Yakuza boss is looking to retire from the Yakuza and move into a monastery, but before he can do this he has to rightfully claim what is his, the Samurai Armour.
The action then kicks up a notch as Hiram tries to protect the armour and also the girl at the front desk of the museum from the Yakuza boss and his henchmen.
This is a nice short story, but full of action and keeps you wanting to read more all the time.
I also listened to this on Audio book, through Audible, and the narrator, Kenneth Bryant, brought the book to life really well. I could really tell the differences between the characters and Hiram's English accent as well as Katashi's Japanese accent were both done really well.

Wow!!! What a story!
This is the first book by this author and narrator that I have listened to. I found it quite enjoyable. The author was able to give such vivid imagery and I loved the glimpses of Japanese history and culture. I thought the book moved along quite well and had enough character development for its short length. The narrator was able to convey so many emotions, and did a great job with the various characters. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I was provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher, and/or narrator at my request and voluntarily left this review. In addition to being full of action, this book does give some great insight into the Japanese culture, and some unexpected humor.

Lovely setting, bad narrator
I love the settings for this series and the author has a great way of describing the country or city he is writing about, making you feel like you are right there or at least that you want to go visit there some day. This book is set in Japan and I love the touch on the Samurai history but as this is a novella, I feel like it was a little bit rushed.
I do not like the main character, Hiram Kane. He is always just a little too smart, too good looking, too strong, too lucky, too good at everything for him to be relatable at all, in fact, I find him a bit irritating.
And talking about irritating, the narrator is terrible. He has a very halting way of reading and putting emphasis in strange places. It is very distracting from the story. Unfortunately he was chosen to narrate the whole series so far, and I will not continue listening to it.

Well done! Awesome story.
Would you listen to The Samurai Code again? Why?
Yes I would, Kenneth Bryant is an awesome narrator based on his performance and he nailed the Japanese voices.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The MC Hiram Kane because he reminds me of Indiana Jones and I can easily see him fitting into a movie adaption. Steve has clearly crafted this character very well!
Have you listened to any of Kenneth Bryant’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I have not, this is my first time hearing Kenneth. He puts the feeling into each character including the Japanese Boss. This guy has a great talent!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh a few times, but it kept me on the edge of my seat. Reading the book was great, but in audio format, it's 10 times better. This could easily be the British version of Indiana Jones!

Hints of an adventurer with more of a tale to tell
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book introduces Hiram Kane and as such, moved slower than usual. There are hints that there is more to come on Hiram's background, but there is sufficient detail in this book to give a rounded story. Not as much of a mystery as I thought there would be but the small insights into Japanese culture added to the overall reading enjoyment. I received this audio book for free and voluntarily reviewed.

wonderful audio book
I am listening to this book as I pack my bag for my own adventure . The narration really adds a great dimension to this story. I look forward to listening to more audio books by this fabulous author. I was given a copy of this audio book by the author and this is my voluntary review.

Ancient and modern human ideals collide
Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is an honest review. Narrated by the impeccable Kenneth Bryant, whose masterful performance of Katashi Goto, especially as he deeply wounded was just so believable and memorable. When a business and pleasure trip brings Hiram Kane to Japan; but it's ensuing monstrous storm that batters the country and a Yakuza boss's ideals of ancient samurai family honor that will leave its mark and memory upon Hiram... as well as his own views of honor and justice to those around him. And unforgettable profound and poignant and gorgeous adventure. Highly recommended.

Great Story!
Hiram Kane will keep you on the edge of your seat!
The Samurai Code, like the rest of the Hiram Kane novels I've had the pleasure to read, is well written, rich with detail and full of action. I always enjoy following along with Hiram's latest adventure! The audio narration is well done and enjoyable to listen to.

Loved it
Stephen Moore does a great job with the character Hiram Kane. Once again this one did not disappoint. if you love Samurai then check this one out. Hiram discovers a plot by accident of a theft that will occur. As usual Hiram does his best to prevent it. A great story with plenty of action. I love the Hiram Kane series & Stephen earned his place on my favorite authors list.
