Summary
He’s in it to win it
Until he falls under his neighbor’s spell.
Bram Larkspur’s rugged, sexy looks belie his fear of all things horrifying. But as Casper Road’s newest resident, he’s excited to join the annual Halloween decorating contest. The competition is keen, especially from six-time champion, architect Zachary Glass. But when enigmatic Zachary sparks a prank war, it’s game on—until one sizzling kiss turns these rivals into allies. Now only one thing scares Bram: how quickly he’s losing his heart to Zachary.

Conflicted - wanted to love it but couldn't
This was easy to listen to, and the narration was fantastic, but to be honest, it didn't hold my attention like other books from this author. Corbin Wale had me transfixed, and lingered with me for days afterwards, and yet this book lacked something essential to keep me with the story and characters. I guess the main characters felt a bit caricature-ish and their relationship develops in a way I didn't feel a part of, as the reader, like important things were happening off the page that I didn't know about. The Halloween theme of the book felt more developed than the characters, and it just felt like a rose tinted nostalgia trip into the holiday, leaving reality behind in a way that felt more frustrating than freeing. And as someone who uses a chainsaw regularly for firewood processing, I can only say that Casper Road must have the most laid back residents on the planet if they never had any issues with Bram spending days making sculptures in his front yard, never mind the mess!
If you just want a lighter, less involved tale to while away a weekend, then you'll probably enjoy this, as it is a sweet story despite all its issues. If you're familiar with the authors work and are expecting something of equal quality, then you may be disappointed.
