About this listen

The Number One bestseller. A religious conspiracy thriller like no other. The end of the world is coming – one body at a time…

Two murders at opposite ends of America, one in the backstreets of New York City, the other in the backwoods of Montana. A series of killings in every corner of the globe, from the crowded slums of India to the pristine beaches of Cape Town. There can't possibly be a connection.

That's the instinct of Will Monroe, a young, British-born reporter for The New York Times – until the morning his beautiful wife Beth is kidnapped. Holding her are men who seem ready to kill without hesitation.

Desperate, Will follows a trail that leads to a mysterious sect right on his own doorstep – fervent followers of one of mankind's oldest faiths. He will have to break through multiple layers of mysticism and ancient prophecy, unearthing riddles buried deep in the Bible – until he finds the secret that is said to have animated the world for thousands of years, a secret on which the fate of humanity may depend. But with more murders by the hour, and each clue wrapped in layers of code, time is running out…

Critic reviews

"More thrills as British-born reporter Will Monroe whose investigation of a series of global killings gets his wife, Beth, kidnapped. Biblical clues, an ultra-orthodox religious group, secrets within secrets and a race against time may be as hokey as all get out ¿ but Sam Bourne¿s The Righteous Men is terrific suspend-your-disbelief listening ¿ especially with the supremely talented Kerry Shale¿s doing the reading." ( Daily Express)
."The best thriller I've read in years." (Piers Morgan)
"The biggest challenger to Dan Brown's crown...a highly charged, theologically accurate tale." ( Mirror)

Good story but very short

It was a good story but it seemed it was over before it started. Most audiobooks I have are over 12 hours and you can get stuck into them. I could not find an unabridged version.

Great story poor production

Great story but the reading was way too fast, showed very little emotion and consequently the listener couldn’t warm to any of the characters.

Great Book

I know there’s some naysayer’s, but I loved this book. I read it when it first came and it left something with me, was not disappointed listening to again. Great story, not sure how all the actual facts fit but again it’s a story, just enjoy the ride!

Ridiculous performance makes this a hard listen!

The story is not compelling enough to put up with the voice acting, which is off-putting. I remember reading this in print a while ago and now remember why I never finished it, the plot is bizarre and a little implausible!

Weak.

An interesting premise, let down by one dimensional characters and the narration. Will is, by large, unlikable and just oozes middle class privilege. Difficult to root for someone with such a lack of charisma.

Also let down by the narrator just going with the basic American stereotype posh English accent. I hope he doesn’t think that’s how anyone outside of the Royal Family speaks, because it was dreadful. Stick with Dan Brown or Chris Kuzneski for books in this genre.

Narrator may spoil it

Couldn't take the narrator's British accent too seriously which hampered any broad love for the content. Sorry!
