About this listen

He's back! The long-awaited return of the most exciting new commercial fantasy writer of the 21st century.

After their adventures on the high seas, Locke and Jean are brought back to earth with a thump. Jean is mourning the loss of his lover and Locke must live with the fallout of crossing the all-powerful magical assassins, the Bonds Magi. It is a fallout that will pit both men against Locke's own long-lost love.

Sabetha is Locke's childhood sweetheart, the love of Locke's life, and now it is time for them to meet again. Employed on different sides of a vicious dispute between factions of the Bonds, Sabetha has just one goal: to destroy Locke forever.

The Gentleman Bastard sequence has become a literary sensation in fantasy circles and now, with the third book, Scott Lynch is set to seal that success.

I want more

I loved it and hopes there will be more. The other two was better, but you can't always write the best book.

A sad day...

Many years ago, I remember reading a quote in one of my parent's Reader's Digest "You know when you've finished a good book because it feels like you've lost a friend."

I feel like I have lost a whole heap of friends by finishing the third volume in this series. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to the antics of the Gentleman Bastards as they pit their wits against their foes. I've laughed, more than once and had strange looks from the wife because of it. I've been VERY close to tears with some of the characters and I've been amazed, entertained and utterly enthralled listening to these audio books.

The writing is first-class and the narration, for me, is as good as it gets. This series is firmly entrenched as one of my firm favourites so it was sad when I finally fished the last book. The good news is, there looks like there’s going to be another AND I can always listen again…

If you like the steam-punk genre I heartily recommend this series.

Another stunner from Scott Lynch!

I have downloaded all 3 books in this series and cannot wait for the next one! I'm delighted that there will apparently be 7 books about Locke Lamora in this series. This 3rd book,' The Republic of Thieves' moves back and forth from Locke's childhood with the Gentleman Bastards in Camorr and the new predicament Locke and his sidekick Jean Tannen find themselves in. It's a super adventure, in a beautifully realized fantasy world- much like medieval Europe. The narration is great, and there is one hell of a cliffhanger ending. Well done Mr Lynch! would thoroughly recommend this series and I can't wait for the next book!!

Great 3rd book.

The story, the performance, the characters, the back story, their development and the potential of the next book are all excellent. It's rare that a third book manages to maintain the thrill of the first. I hope the next book or series doesn't drag out for the sake of it but given the quality of the first three I am excited to hear it.
