About this listen

Her name is Dinah. In the Bible her fate is merely hinted at in a brief and violent detour within the verses of the Book of Genesis that recount the life of Jacob and his infamous dozen sons. The Red Tent is an extraordinary and engrossing tale of ancient womanhood and family honour. Told in Dinah's voice, it opens with the story of her mothers, the four wives of Jacob, each of whom embodies unique feminine traits, and concludes with Dinah's own startling and unforgettable story of betrayal, grief and love.

Deeply affecting and intimate, The Red Tent combines outstandingly rich storytelling with an original insight into women's society in a fascinating period of early history. Such is its warmth and candour that it is guaranteed to win the hearts and minds of women across the world.

Highly evocative and moving reaching into the past, the present and future generations of forgotten women, giving them a voice and a soul. Meaningful and poetic. It improves with every reading/listen.

The Red Tent is my favourite book and in my excitement over seeing the title, I didn’t notice that it was an abridged version. I really wouldn’t waste my time on an abridged version of this book, it needs and deserves every original word. Audible please get the full copy of The Red Tent on here!!!!

Abridged!

I loved the story and the magic and wisdom on it but sadly it’s not the whole book because it’s the abridged version. I hope audible will fix this soon because I really want to list and savour every word of this wonderful book.

Loved it but it’s the abridged version 😢

beautiful story

A completely enveloping journey into pre-Christian history, offering a compelling glimpse of everyday life in times we hear little about. There's a kind of nostalgic sadness about this haunting story and a profound feeling of connectedness with these people, our ancestors who, although living a simpler kind of life, barely differed from us at all.

I just loved this book, which reminded me strongly of 'Honour' by Elif Shafak, my favourite Audible book to date.

Mesmerizing and beautiful
