Summary

Before he could forge a band of elite warriors ... he had to become one himself.

Brandon Webb's experiences in the world's most elite sniper corps are the stuff of legend. From his grueling years of training in Naval Special Operations to his combat tours in the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan, The Red Circle provides a rare and riveting look at the inner workings of the U.S. military through the eyes of a covert operations specialist.

Yet it is Webb's distinguished second career as a lead instructor for the shadowy "sniper cell" and Course Manager of the Navy SEAL Sniper Program that trained some of America's finest and deadliest warriors - including Marcus Luttrell and Chris Kyle - that makes his story so compelling. Luttrell credits Webb's training with his own survival during the ill-fated 2005 Operation Redwing in Afghanistan.

Kyle went on to become the U.S. military's top marksman, with more than 150 confirmed kills.

From a candid chronicle of his student days, going through the sniper course himself, to his hair-raising close calls with Taliban and al Qaeda forces in the northern Afghanistan wilderness, to his vivid account of designing new sniper standards and training some of the most accomplished snipers of the 21st century, Webb provides a rare look at the making of the Special Operations warriors who are at the forefront of today's military.

Explosive, revealing, and intelligent, The Red Circle provides a uniquely personal glimpse into one of the most challenging and secretive military training courses in the world.

A portion of proceeds from this book will go towards The Red Circle Charitable Foundation, which helps families of fallen Special Operations Warriors.

Short Changed

I purchased this book expecting there to be a fair bit of content about Snipers, both training and then plying their trade in the field. However, the subject is barely mentioned. There is a part about the training aspect, but after that, it’s like the author didn’t even take his sniper rifle to theatre, let alone use it. The “action” parts of the book are very short and somewhat lacking. Also lacking a bit of the technical aspects of the job. Interesting enough story, and I liked the author introducing each chapter, but the commentary is so monotone, that I almost swapped the book in the first chapter. For me, a much better “sniper story” is Longest Kill, by Cpl. Harris.
Overall-Disappointed.

An amazing insight

I bought this purely on reviews, to be honest I was sceptical about the book being full of American bravado but I was 100% wrong, it's an amazing, interesting and humbling insight into the life of a person who never gave up and followed his dreams of being a Seal Sniper. Love the chapters of the intense training and tours, risking his life for the sake of others.
These guys are like machines and deserve the credit they all get, like many soldiers around the world who put their lives before others for freedom, only they can be called real heroes.

Well narrated - better suited to non-military listener

Enjoyed the narration which was engaging and did well to convey the mood of the story.
Better suited to non-military listeners who will find the embellishment annoying and the attempts to parallel with proper Tier 1 units dull. Pretty standard for this type of book in a Goggins kind of way, (I’m great but others weren’t).

A well written book

It's great the author talks about the chapter and what to expect before he hands it over to the reader. There are a few stories at the end.
Very enjoyable, wanted to listen to it in one hit.

Great Audiobook

I thoroughly enjoy listening to this audiobook. It starts off like most books ie childhood etc but then it really picks up pace. It goes way deep into SEAL training and then onto the Sniper stage. What it takes to be a SEAL and a Sniper is beyond comprehension. Brandon has wrote an amazing book and if you like military and / or sniper stories this is for you. The only problem I had with the audiobook is it repeated a sentence and a couple of paragraphs twice and at the end it skips a whole 2 paragraphs. The reason I know this is because I was reading the book at the same time as listening to it. Still highly recommended though.

Not going to lie, I loved this book Brandon goes into a lot of really interesting detail regarding BUDS and subsequent life in the teams, especially when it comes to Sniper school etc. Just shows how next level all these guys are. Throughly recommend this.
