Wonderful

A wonderful story divinely narrated. Edward Petherbridge has the most perfect voice for this, or indeed any, classic novel.

"Every portrait that is painted with feeling...

...is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter." Basil Hallward hints at what may lie behind Oscar Wilde's own tripartite written portrait. It is a sublime work, a most exquisite dissection of the complexities of moral character, a philosophical treatise on what constitutes goodness, an examination of the hypocrisies of the age and of one human's manipulation of and by another. It forces the reader to take a fresh look in the mirror. Be it in 1891 or in 2019.

Edward Petherbridge is the perfect performer for this piece and brings to life with clear enunciation the voices and accents of each character in a credible and fitting fashion as would be expected from a stage actor. I was hooked from start to finish.

Edward Petherbridge's reading makes it special!

What made the experience of listening to The Picture of Dorian Gray the most enjoyable?

Edward Petherbridge's reading is simply wonderful! He moves from light touch humour to heart-rending pathos with stunning skill. The story is a little long winded in parts but Mr Petherbridge never fails to entertain and transfix.

Which character – as performed by Edward Petherbridge – was your favourite?

The development of the characters is quite clunky, for modern tastes, but you are held in Mr Petherbridge's grasp throughout.

sublime novel. Marvelous narration

a terrific book and audio book.
An incredible story also filled with terrific description and such pithy and exacting analysis of the human condition.

The narration is brilliant.

the background noise in the Reading is so annoying

there is a constant buzzing noise in the background, sudden periods with echoes, and other background noises that makes you Wonder if it was recorded in a coffeshop

Classic

A very enjoyable listen. Haunting in that it explores human nature at its rawest form.

Dorian embodies characteristics of a dreamer that loses control to his vices. Ultimately he is a man that just wants to be normal.

Immorality is something that we were not designed for.

Deserved classic

loved this book and it's narration. There's so much more to it than the one thing everyone knows about Dorian and his picture. Magnificent story with loads of sharp Wildean epithets from Lord Harry. one l will listen to again

Simply stunning!

Edward Petherbredge 's narration is fantastically compelling which brought out the beauty as well as the darkness of the novel.

Use of language is sublime

Really enjoyed the language, the words. Made me feel like we have lost our ability for description. Thoroughly enjoyed it all.

Excellent narrator

I knew the story was great anyway. However, the narrator is perfect for this story. Excellent.
