Summary

‘We gotta get outa here. Get somewhere. Run away....'

The Socs and the Greasers are rival gangs from the opposite sides of town. The Socs’ idea of a good time is cruising around in their flash cars and beating up long-haired Greasers like Ponyboy.

Ponyboy knows what to expect and that he can count on his older brothers and other friends—until one night when someone takes things too far. Ponyboy may seem tough, but on the inside he is running scared....

Timeless Tale

A great story of struggle, coming of age and societies judgement on people from different backgrounds. Highly recommend this emotional tale for young men.

This book is truly Gold

SE Hinton's writing makes the innocence, pain and angst of teenage life so palpable, it's nothing short of amazing. It's bitter sweet that this book has such timeless resonance as that indicates that the divisive issues of class and prejudice still plague our society. As it's a kind of balm for each of these things. This book would so easily resonate with any of the city youth I have worked with in the UK. I hope it continues to be read by both young and old, rich and poor for years to come.

Perfect narration

I read this first when I was 15. Loved the book, loved the film and was hesitant to listen in case it didn't live up to my own expectations but Jim Fyfe nailed it.
A great listen from a great author and I only just learned she was 16 when she wrote it. Amazing insights
