About this listen

A deathly magic. An arranged marriage. A curse in the blood.

In the glittering city state of Volun, Lorelei Steddart never thought she'd be anything but an office drone—until her family all die under mysterious and likely magical circumstances, leaving her to inherit everything. To figure out what's happened, her uncle marries her off to the city state's top War Alchemist, Nephele Corisande, an intimidating older woman who might just be able to save her.

But what starts as a marriage of pure convenience becomes something deeper. Soon Lorelei and Nephele must untangle a terrible magic that has metastasized into something new and unstable, born in Lorelei's blood.

This is a great story and I did enjoy it, however the ending was a bit odd. I wanted more and I wanted answers, I will probably listen to it again to see if I can get more understanding. It's a good short story none the less with good narration. 🎶

GREAT STORY

This audiobook was engaging until it wasn't ! I listened to this strange tale which left much to the imagination in the hopes of a satisfactory conclusion. The conclusion was a huge , hollow disappointment, one of those annoying endings that just 'hangs out there' ! I could almost live with the short change of 'just under five hours' if my ' just under five hours' were worthwhile in the end , they were not ! The way the audio is narrated is more like two people just reading off a page, there was no dramatization as such. I found that the second narrator (Nephele) seemed to mumble at times and words were difficult sometimes impossible
to make out, but overall the narration was good. I'm not sure this was worth a credit because the ending was so 'wanting' !
