some writers just leave me in awe at their intelligence and their imagination.Wonderful story, absolutely thrilling, funny, sad, twists and turns, Just great.I liked it as much as I liked 'the Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.

Fabulous read!

An honest look at our daily deceptions of self avoidance of how we truly feel! Inspired writing and a journey worth traveling. We all have a story to tell and the opportunity to choose between inner truth and falsehood. Great characters and insight into mind traps. The little things are so important. Uplifting finish.

Very Good - great detail

This has been in my library for ages ! I like end of world, Zombies so when I purchased this, it as always stayed towards bottom of the pile, however I needed a break from my norm and listened. I really enjoyed it, good story, thought provoking and well written, I like detail, longer the better and this did not disappoint.

Great listen.

I don’t think I’d have stuck with this had I read it. But as a listen it was great. Really long but extremely well written with different characters highlighted in different sections. It’s a saga but not in the way of other “family sagas”. I recommend it and will miss it now it’s completed.

Very good, but could have been exceptional

Other reviewers have hit the nail on the head - the whole thing with Pwnage was irrelevant and tedious to listen to, I was so glad when he was out of the picture for a bit - I couldn't see what he contributed to the rest of the story, it was like padding. I'm going to read the book now in preference to the audible version, so I can skip out those boring bits, and concentrate on the rest of it. On the whole the narration was good, appropriate to the characters, but again, Pwnage got in the way of the story - so whiney and monotone it was hard to listen to.
Overall, this was thought provoking story (I was growing up around the same time as Faye) Parts of this book resonated with me so much I had to replay bits over and over then go away and think about it.

Slow start but I was finally hooked.

During the first chapters I wasn't convinced that I would listen to the end despite a brilliant narrator and great use of words to draw attention to small details. I cannot say when the characters became so interesting for me but now that the story is finished I feel bereft.

A great find

I don't often write reviews, or read novels of this length: my choices tend to be crime/police procedural/thrillers. I believe I must have bought this book as an Audible Deal of the Day on a whim, and several months after doing so, I am very happy with my purchase. This book is very cleverly constructed, it is funny, tragic, fascinating and intriguing in turn. All the characters are flawed but likeable in some way. It was surprising and satisfying and the best writing I have read in a long time. Despite the length I became hooked, partly because it was excellently narrated, and read it in a week.
