Perfect for the self-compassion novice

Thoughtful, practical and well-explained. A wonderful guide to meditation and self-compassion for the novice. I particularly appreciated the excellent guidance on using Metta for self-compassion - has opened up many new options for my self-compassion practice. Thank you!

The Road to Self-Compassion

This is a superb book with very clear and concise instructions on how to practice mindful self-compassion. Having read many books on this topic this is one of the best for it’s simplicity.

So theoretical and descriptive! Not fun to listen... lacks real life stories... Not sure if I will be able to listen until the end.

Disappointing

For a book discussing self-compassion there's a LOT of subtext blaming the person. It basically blames mentally ill people for being mentally ill. There's little to no acknowledgement of how culturally we are setup to be critical of ourselves. It implies that we 'choose' negative thinking. This is extremely dangerous and could lead mentally ill people into a much darker and more dangerous place.

Granted I didn't finish it so maybe this was touched on later but there was no acknowledgement of how our genes, hormones and environment can affect us. It also doesn't acknowledge how somethings are just beyond our control and thats ok.


I listened to the audio version of this and found the narrators voice very hard to follow. It was almost robotic at times.
