Summary
"This regency spy romance is filled with intrigue, suspense, and a hero who could make the hardest of hearts swoon." (InD'Tale Magazine)
A traitor with a deadly plan. Two agents sent to expose his identity before he strikes. But danger is closer than they think....
Lord Christian Wolverton - known as Wolf in a covert group operating during the war against Napoleon - has been called home from his military duties. For the moment, his family responsibilities require him to suspend his more clandestine activities. But information falls into his hands that a traitor will soon try to tip the scales back into French favor and Christian doesn't have much time to stop it from happening.
Going to the one person who can help him, the powerful Duke of Huntingdon, Christian comes face to face with Lady Alice. She's a beautiful member of the ton with a very big secret - she's also a trained agent and already on the case. Forced to partner with her to lure the traitor out of hiding, Christian wants to quickly close the case himself, before Lady Alice is more closely involved. But Lady Alice has ideas of her own and she's going to prove her theories correct - with or without him.
Danger is closer than they think, however, and it's a race against time to expose the traitor's identity before British lives are endangered. Both Christian and Alice have strong opinions on who he is, but which one will be proven right and can they catch him before it's too late?

Thoroughly enjoyable!
This is the second book I have read/listened to by this author and I am eager to read more. I love Regency Era novels, so I am always excited to discover authors who write clean regency romances. I thoroughly enjoyed this story! I loved the character development. The chemistry between the two key characters was well done and the fact that, initially, they weren’t overly fond of each other, made me even more eager to discover how the story would progress. This is a clean and wholesome read with the perfect amount of wit, humour, suspense and romance to satisfy this reader :)

The Marques Meets His Match
I always enjoy Julie Coulter Bellon's book. This one was the first Regency of hers that I've read. It still has the adventure and suspense. I throughly enjoyed the book and the narration. Good clean book.

Percy Blakeney would be proud
This is a Regency era story that takes place after Waterloo, but British/French relations are still unsettled. The H still works as an operative for the Falcon group even though he has been required to assume the position of heir after the death of his brother. The h is the daughter of a Duke who is also part of the spy group. This Duke is also an enlightened father who has trained his daughter well recognizing the benefits a woman brings to the group. I've enjoyed Julie's books about current terrorist hunters and spy masters, so adding cravats and corsets to the mix makes for a great read/listen. Julie's heroines are typically strong and confident while not losing the best of their femininity, and this heroine is no different. The hero is an unusual nobleman--a former military officer who also feels deeply for his men and for others. Surprisingly, he feels proud of, rather than threatened by, the h's skills and abilities. The lack of angst caused by cruel parents or former suitors wasn't missed AT ALL. There are a few twists that make this story intriguing while remaining clean. Great fun for any age. The narrator is wonderful and performs the story well. I received this audiobook as a gift from the author, but the opinions expressed are my own and given voluntarily.

It’s fine
It's okay if a little one dimensional and improbable. I'm always appreciative of clean books, and I do like a bit of mystery with them, but the spy angle wasn't particularly deep or engaging. Still, it's worth a listen for light entertainment.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT
A traitor with a deadly plan. Two agents sent to expose his identity before he strikes. But danger is closer than they think . . .
MY TAKE
What a fun story! I've read several of Bellon's contemporary military romantic suspense stories and really enjoyed them. This was the first historical of hers and wasn't disappointed.
Lady Alice has decided she's not interested in marrying. And once you realize she's a trained spy, working under the order of her father (a duke), I understood. What man in her time would care for a wife as capable and intelligent as she, when all he'd want is a nice dowry and a pretty (and quiet) lady on his arm.
So you can understand why Christian, recently home from the war and having lost his older brother and should have inherited the title. When he first enters society upon his return, he's faced with a very inquisitive woman. He warns her to take care when she follows a man she wishes to question. Then someone takes a shot at her. Or is it him?
A wonderful mystery ensues with both Alice and Christian working together ... and falling in love.
The narrator, Jessica Elisa Boyd, did a great job!

The Marquess meets his match indeed
I love this! The story was fast paced and engaging, the historical details perfect and the characters well drawn and memorable! The narration was perfection. Christian and Alice are a well suited pair with all the right sparks. Even if you’re not a fan of romances, this book hits all the right notes of intrigue, memorable protagonists to root for and a supporting cast worth spending time with. A thoroughly enjoyable read (listen) that I highly recommend

An enjoyable spy regency
4.5 stars rounded up
What a fun spy regency! No one would think that the only daughter of a duke is a spy, but that's what Lady Alice Huntington is, and she's a good one too--with great instincts, knife-fighting skills, and she can untie any knot when restrained. Christian (Lord Wolverton) is a baron, who's recently been called home from the war when his brother dies in an accident and his father suffers a stroke. He's a spy with the Falcon Group, trying to find out who killed Thomas Norwich.
I love Regency romances and I love mysteries, so this was an especially delightful read for me, although I didn't guess who was behind the selling of a spy list to the French--I'd never have figured it out. Alice and Christian are both wonderful characters--smart, brave, kind and they don't look down on those of lesser stations. I liked that Alice's parents had genuine affection for each other which seems to have been uncommon among the peerage in that era. I liked the intrigue and how well Alice and Christian worked together, especially liked that Christian looked at Alice as an equal and enjoyed learning all her secret talents.
I really enjoyed the narrator's voice. She was a new narrator to me.
