Summary
Tommy J. Curry’s provocative audiobook The Man-Not is a justification for Black male studies. He posits that we should conceptualize the Black male as a victim oppressed by his sex. The Man-Not, therefore, is a corrective of sorts, offering a concept of Black males that could challenge the existing accounts of Black men and boys desiring the power of white men who oppress them that has been proliferated throughout academic research across disciplines.
Curry argues that Black men struggle with death and suicide, as well as abuse and rape, and their genred existence deserves study and theorization. This audiobook offers intellectual, historical, sociological, and psychological evidence that the analysis of patriarchy offered by mainstream feminism (including Black feminism) does not yet fully understand the role that homoeroticism, sexual violence, and vulnerability play in the deaths and lives of Black males. Curry challenges how we think of and perceive the conditions that actually affect all Black males.

Amazingly honest and shockingly refreshing!!!!!
It was hard to listen to this book because it was saying a lot of things I did not want to hear about black men and people in general. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to listen to it tho. I recommend this book for everyone to listen to. Bravo to the narrator.

Well researched!
I applaud this book's brutal honesty. The author encourages us to keep an open mind to current events as well as historical facts that help him illustrate the precarious position of the black man in this American society.

The Introduction Alone Makes This Book Worth Buying
This is the first book I’ve ever owned where I’ve been compelled to buy the physical copy due to how extensively the author supported his/her claims with studies, quotations, and verifiable statistics. This book is the only book of its type covering the subject matter and if you consider yourself a researcher of black culture this is a must-have.

America lives in perpetual romanticism....
America can't even look at the truth let alone speak for it so I don't see much change down the road. Folks don't want to look at the hurtstory that is history.... So much has changed, yet so little has changed at the same time....

Thank you Dr.Curry!!!
I learned about this book from Dr. T. Hasan Johnson. It has given me tools to better articulate the issues I've experienced in institutions of higher education and life in general. The greatest benefit of this book is that I am able to have deeper conversations with my oldest child as they negotiate becoming an adult. The narrator kept me engaged with the text and I looked forward to learning when I listened. Thank you Dr. Curry!!!

Very insightful and much needed
This was the most in depth look at the experience of an African American male in the United States. Never before have I seen my experience in such detail. This literature also answered questions I’ve always had about my treatment in this world.

As a black man …this book informed me on things about the sexual assault and rape of black males I really never thought about, although I’ve always heard of such things.
