Beware the land of the stolen chapters.
Any additional comments?
I originally bought the illustrated print version of 'The Magic Faraway Tree' to read to my granddaughter, on the grounds that my mother read it to me and I read it to my children. I also decided that I would buy the audio version so that sometimes we could listen together and look at the pictures. Kate Winslet is excellent and there is little point trying to review the work of Enid Blyton, I mean you know what you are getting, or do you?I can just about stomach the PC police changing Dick and Fanny to Rick and Frannie and Dame Slap to Dame Snap, but around chapter nineteen we arrive at: 'The Mysterious Land Of The Stolen Chapters' . This 'unabridged' work has five chapters missing. Clearly someone thought that 'The Land of Magic Medicines' might be confused by a three year old for a 'crack house' and best not to talk about 'The Land Of Tempers', because no-one in the real world has a temper. This is not 'unabridged', it is in fact butchered, but why stop there? A glance at the 'working at height regulations' shows this book to be a Health and Safety nightmare. Dame Washalot with her love of menial tasks is a poor role model for girls. Saucepanman ridicules people with hearing difficulties. The entire book fosters a belief in creatures for which there is no scientific evidence and Joe, in always taking the lead is a clearly sexist stereotype, although as he is the eldest it may in fact be ageist. Either perform it all, or don't bother. As far as I'm concerned, whoever hacked this book about is a complete and utter Rick!

Missing chapters
This audiobook is described as unabridged, but the original ending is missing, and I feel the book ends abruptly as a result. There are lands missing, perhaps some of them are felt to be unpalatable to a modern audience, but the land of presents (which I remember well from reading this book as a child) does not to my knowledge have anything about it that would cause it to be removed.

Absolutely beautifully made
What did you like most about The Magic Faraway Tree?
My 4 and 1/2 year old sits on the sofa listening to these stories read by Kate Winslet for hours, she really loves them, they are such a great replacement to tv. She uses her imagination and plays at the same time as listening. This has been a wonderful addition to our daily routines.

Painless long car journeys with two young boys!
Any additional comments?
These books were my favourite when I was a child and I've loved listening to them all over again as brought to life by Kate Winslet. My children also love them and roared laughing particularly at the deaf old Saucepan Man and we've been on several very long journeys without the usual squabbles and mithering. Highly recommend.

AMAZING
I loved this book it was just super super to listen to the children's adventures but it could have included a LOT more story's that is why it gets 2 1/2 stars but honestly they weren't that gripping

Very annoying voice
Sadly, I couldn't bear to go beyond chapter 3 as I found the narrator's voice very annoying.

Laughed
I read the book as a child and loved it. It’s possibly the reason I love to read. The narration for kids is fantastic and she keeps the voices of each person the same throughout. The story is delightful and silly. I would definitely recommend this book.
