About this listen

By now, the low-carb diet's refrain is a familiar one: "Bread is bad for you. Fat doesn't matter. Carbs are the real reason you can't lose weight."

The low-carb universe Dr. Atkins brought into being continues to expand. Low-carb diets, from South Beach to The Zone and beyond, are still the go-to method for weight loss for millions. These diets' marketing may differ, but they all share two crucial components: the condemnation of "carbs" and an emphasis on meat and fat for calories. Even the latest diet trend, the Paleo diet, is—despite its increased focus on some wholefoods—just another variation on the same carbohydrate fears.

In The Low-Carb Fraud, longtime leader in the nutritional science field T. Colin Campbell outlines where and how the low-carb proponents get it wrong: Where the belief came from that carbohydrates are bad and why it persists despite all the evidence to the contrary. The foods we misleadingly refer to as "carbs" aren't all created equal, and treating them that way has major consequences for our nutritional well-being.

If you're considering a low-carb diet, listen to this book first. It will change the way you think about what you eat—and how you should be eating to lose weight and optimize your health, now and for the long term.

The truth?

No, this is not the truth. It is only the author's theories of a diet, which cannot be proved. This is as little as other diets can be proven superior.

There are no studies on people where 100% of their food intake or ways of living can or have been studied, it's not possible as they need to be detained 24/7 and staying in isolation from others for it to work.

But there are some interesting facts the author apart from, there are people living in this world without access to vegetables because of the climate where they live and they seem to do well.

Great book with great wisdom

I loved this book. I have followed WFPB diet for many years inspired by the Chinese study and feel great. Many of my friends consider my diet extreme and often argue that a Paleo or low carb diet is better. This book provided me with a great overview of the scientific arguments why such diets are a bad idea. Thoroughly recommend.

Interesting and factual

This is an interesting and factual book, it was well read and I like the fact that Colin Campbell has no agenda apart from helping the planet become healthy individuals! Thank you.

It's a quick book especially after reading both the China study and Whole; both great books!

Outdated information - don't bother

Outdated information and very misleading. Given all the research over the last couple of decades, the message the author is spouting about cutting down fat and the hero worship of Ancel Keys' work is delusional.

Biased

The book criticises low carb diets using the same method that these diets use to criticise other high fat diets. An impartial view would have been appreciated. The main fall person in this case being a cherry picked journalist, well go pick a fight with a scientist e.g. prof Tim Noakes who used to support Carb loading prior to running. You also did not cover a plant based keto diet, assuming that fat is acquired from meat sources. I leave the listener to make their own decision, however I will lol further into the WFPB recommendation which is my takeaway.

Didn’t get past first chapter!

I don’t want to hear someone banging on about how rubbish another author is! Present your own case rather than discredit others!
