Summary

A flawless collection of short stories that Christie herself referred to as ‘light-hearted thrillers’.

Twelve ingenious, witty mysteries showing the author at her best, including: the curious disappearance of Lord Listerdale, the strange meeting on a train of a feckless man and a beautiful girl, Philomel Cottage and the extraordinary country house visit of Edward Robinson. Each four-story volume is expertly narrated by Hugh Fraser.

File error & awful audible customer service

This file does not have the correct chapters so is really hard to navigate. Chapters are merged together. Complained to audible and got fobbed off for weeks and told small chapters are often merged. That's nonsense because the stories in this audiobook are not short. Audible customer service was awful here.

And no chapters are named, which is just pure laziness and lack of consideration for customers.

Another Agatha Christie masterpiece

This is a set of short stories, the first of which is The Listerdale Mystery. I love Agatha Christie, and her prowess in crime fiction is apparent, whilst Hugh Fraser matches voice to character perfectly. Each mystery is separate, and none of the characters, twists or plots are the same. I recommend this to both Agatha Christie fans and those who are new to her work.

Easy listening well narrated

Christie’s personages are cartoon characters, and rarely attractive in their appalling superficiality, selfishness and prejudices. From time to time I find not only the people who are represented (who are satirised) but also the narrative voice shocking (which is likely to be closer to the author’s own views).
At least you can be sure that you won’t be faced with excessive violence or explicit sex at bedtime, even if your socialist soul is shaken by the snobbery, xenophobia, anti-intellectualism, antisemitism and colonialism of her world.
It’s trivial stuff, entertaining but now and again I feel guilty for listening, when the authorial voice goes beyond mocking her compatriot English.

Enjoyed this collection

Really enjoyed this collection of short stories. They have a twist as you would expect from Agatha Christie. Very relaxing yet amazingly written and read.
Would be good if Audible would make the chapter breaks relate to the stories, but I’ve managed to bookmark them.

Short and fun.

Short, amusing stories that make for an easy listening. Each story still has the Christie charm.

A very mixed bag !

Whilst High Fraser's contribution cannot be faulted, the stories are surprisingly poor coming from the acknowledged queen of mystery.
