Summary

Elliot Hansen never falls in love with the right guy, so his friends have decided to take that over.

Meet Elliot's perfect man:

  1. Those abs
  2. That V

But a boyfriend should be more than the sum of his parts. Shouldn't he?

Elliot's not so sure once sexy NYPD Detective Win Rogers bursts into his bedroom to apprehend a criminal.

A new series with a touch of angst and a whole lot of swoon.

Enjoyable story and solid narration

Elliot Hansen has an unfortunate habit of falling in love with pretty much every man he dates while his next-door neighbour, Detective Win Rogers isn't interested in love and hasn't been since his husband died five years earlier. Bonus points for the unusual meet-cute - Win arrests a burglar in Elliot's bedroom! - and after the grumpy cop insists on taking Elliot to buy a new window-lock (and then on fitting it) the next day, they start to spend time together and get to know each other.

When, after a while, Elliot tells Win about his disastrous history with relationships, Win sees a way they can help each other. Win isn’t looking for love, but he does want companionship – and (hopefully) sex with someone he likes – something with no strings to help him adjust to life as a single man, while Elliot needs to learn how to have fun and be with someone without instantly thinking they’re ‘the one’.

The romance that ensues is lovely, full of genuine affection and tenderness as these two men find themselves falling in love, no matter how much they’ve told themselves they don’t want it (Win) or shouldn’t be looking for it (Elliot). They're well-written, engaging characters although I did find Elliot's naivéte somewhat irritating to begin with, and I was annoyed that Win kept a very important piece of information from Elliot.

There's a strong scondary cast and the narration from newcomer (to audiobooks at least) Denis Lambert is pretty decent. His portrayal of the two leads fits their characters well and his performance is nicely emotionally nuanced - although his female voices need work. His phrasing is a bit of in some places and sometimes some of the characters are difficult to tell apart by ear. But on the whole, it's a good performance, and I'm looking forward to the next in the series

Love it!

The List is the first book is this new series Second Chances, Felice did a great job writing this book! This kind of stories is why she is one of my favorites authors! Their characters always will find their HEA but first we have to watching them become friends and then lovers, you will definitely cry, laugh and find happiness...this book will make you feel so many emotions!

The List is Elliot and Winston story, Elliot is the guy who wants to find someone to love and be loved, he is the instant fall in love and then taken advantage of him, he has his heart broken to many times! So their friends suggested that he need to make a list of Elliot’s perfect man.

Winston is a detective who is still mourning the death of his husband, he doesn’t want to love again but an inusual arrest brings Winston into is neighbor bedroom! Even into his grief he knows that Elliot is special and makes him feel something he thought he lost years ago. I love that they connected immediately but for different reasons they decided to start a friends with benefits relationship, just enjoy each other with no strings attached... sorry but that would never works! Lol...they try to stay just friends but soon that is a lost battle, they were perfect together. They bring each other’s happiness and the support that both need, I love watching them together. their story was hilarious, entertaining and super steamy! Denis Lambert did a great job narrating this book, I love his voice and he really bring to life this amazing characters! I highly recommended this audiobook!

8 hours of my life that I'll never get back.

I'm not jaded, I promise.

And I'm not going to bash this book completely - if you're looking for something really sweet and don't care about a plot or getting hooked cliffhangers or dramatic revelations, this might be for you.

But if you're looking for an actual story, save your money/credit. Sure it isn't always great when the conflict can be cleared up with one little conversation, but this is completely opposite to that - "conflict" is miraculously solved immediately, without any suspense whatsoever, resulting in the story dragging on for hours.

*SPOILER* I really held out hope for the mc's family drama to give this book a little spice but no. It's cleared up in less than a minute, with everyone basically crying and monologueing without any emotion, filling pages with the same information they've been monologueing about the rest of the book.
*SPOILER OVER*

Narrator was fine, albeit a bit slow and monotonous - read another review saying his narration of the credits should have been the type of narration throughout the book and I agree.

if you're looking for recs in the same genre, I enjoyed Roommate (Sarina Bowen), Virgin Flyer (Lucy Lennox) and No Good Mitchell (don't remember the author) Have a great day!
