Summary

The Narnia Chronicles, first published in 1950, have been and remain some of the most enduringly popular children’s books ever published. The best known, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, has been translated into 29 languages!

“It’s a magic wardrobe. There’s a wood inside it, and it’s snowing! Come and see,” begged Lucy.

Lucy has stumbled upon a marvellous land of fauns and centaurs, nymphs and talking animals. But soon she discovers that it is ruled by the cruel White Witch, and can only be freed by Aslan, the great Lion, and four children…

This is the second adventure in the exciting Chronicles of Narnia.

“Narnia offers huge scope for a profitable film franchise… fantasy is currently the toast of Hollywood.” The Guardian (U.K.)

As fresh as the day Lewis wrote it

I grew up with my dad reading Narnia to me, then reading it myself. Now I'm sharing it with my own son.

Lewis wrote his allegorical series decades before I was born get the tales are timeless, the characters engaging and his message timely.

When they became kings and queens

(Like) when they found out they could go through the wardrobe.
(Dislike) when it seems like Aslan is dead!

A wonderful re-telling of an old classic

What about Michael York’s performance did you like?

His voice is wonderful.

Any additional comments?

My children wouldn't have read this book (too old-fashioned), but I wanted them to be familiar with the story and the author, so I bought the Audiobook instead. They really enjoyed listening to it (they are 11, 9 and 7) and it prompted some good discussions in the car.

wonderful, wonderful, wonderful

this is a lovely, British reading of the story. Michael bond uses fabulous accents (irish for Mr tumnus) to tell this story, without being over the top.

Revisiting a book after a long time.

A book much loved years ago, like good wine, has magically improved with its age.
