Summary
The powerful, inspiring follow-up to the critically acclaimed, multi-million #1 bestselling memoir Becoming.
In The Light We Carry, former First Lady Michelle Obama shares practical wisdom and powerful strategies for staying hopeful and balanced in today's highly uncertain world.
She considers the questions many of us wrestle with: How do we build enduring and honest relationships? How can we discover strength and community inside our differences? What do we do when it all starts to feel like too much? Michelle Obama believes that we can all lean on a set of tools to help us better navigate change and remain steady within flux.
The Light We Carry offers listeners a series of fresh stories and insightful reflections on change, challenge, and power, including her belief that when we light up for others, we can illuminate the richness and potential of the world around us, discovering deeper truths and new pathways for progress. Drawing from her experiences as a mother, daughter, spouse, friend, and First Lady, she shares the habits and principles she has developed to successfully overcome various obstacles—the earned wisdom that helps her continue to "become".
With trademark humour, candour, and compassion, she also explores issues connected to race, gender, and visibility, encouraging listeners to work through fear, find strength in community, and live with boldness. The Light We Carry will inspire listeners to examine their own lives, identify their sources of gladness, and connect meaningfully in a turbulent world.

Great wisdom and depth
I appreciated the honesty with which Michelle O writes. Brings a lot of wisdom and depth to her sharing. I identify with a lot of it especially about parenting and long marriage! Chuckled a lot! The message I got out of it is that slogans are not enough - we have to act, and with integrity, if we’re going to see change. Oh and it’s not quick - but not long. Hard work but well worth it. Onwards and upwards. Invigorating!

So worth while Reading
I have recommended this book to my friend as it is so worth reading or listening to. While you enjoy you are learning and working with what Michelle says. In fact I listened to it twice and still enjoyed the whole book. Michelle has so much to give us and inspire and what she has to say is so relevant- a relevance I can’t imagine fading any time soon.

Patronising
I absolutely loved Becoming, but this book is lame.
It's partly a re-hash of Becoming with a load of weak anecdotes.
I can't bear to finish it so maybe it will get better but I don't want to risk wasting my time finding out.

Michelle’s explanation of how it is to be made to feel that you don’t deserve what you have got brought into sharp focus by the news cycle this week.

Loved it
Love Obama’s and she’s clear about the difficulties inherited in her own type of aloneness as the first African American first lady. Michelle’s book it’s an is a manifesto for thriving in a world that too often says you aren’t good enough, inspiring story and wise. Thank you
