About this listen
Revenge and retribution propel Lucky and Laurent to commit crimes they never planned....
Lucky, a naive American actress, has an accident in Tangier during a break from touring Europe performing in summer drama festivals. While her ankle heals, she takes a temporary job working at the American consulate where the Puppet Master, secret head of the CIA’s North Africa operations, is headquartered. He sees Lucky’s innocent appearance as an asset. He trains her as a courier and decoder, enticing her to stay for a year with enough money to pay for her future travels and higher education.
Directing her to take part in a covert operation, the Puppet Master uses her as a “throw-away” agent. After she kills an important ally of the Libyan leader, Qadhafi, her life becomes “disposable.”
That assassination is where the life she did live begins. Murder, kidnapping, harrowing escapes, and multiple identities figure dramatically in dual searches across the globe. To stay alive, Lucky must evade her pursuers. Crossing the Mediterranean in disguise, she meets and falls in love with a fellow traveler in Spain. They have a child. The second search commences when foreign agents kidnap her baby.
No one is who they appear to be, and everyone has a shadow self or two. In this strange world of intrigue, they are either hunting for someone or being hunted.
Revenge and retribution drive the double agents Lucky encounters. She runs in desperate attempts to find her child and to save both of her lives: the one she lived, and the one she didn’t.
