Story
Skilgannon the Damned had vanished from the pages of history. Following the terrible triumph at Perapolis, the General had taken the legendary Swords of Night and Day and ridden from the lands of Naashan. No one knew where he had gone, and the assassins sent by the Witch Queen could find no trace of his passing. Three years later, as a mob intent on murder gathers outside a distant monastery, they are faced by a single unarmed priest. In a few terrifying seconds their world is changed for ever, and word spreads across the lands of the East.

Story
After the bloody battle of Colden Moor, the warlike highlanders had lost their independence. They lived in surly subservience to the Outlanders, and only a teenage girl survived to represent the line of kings: Sigarni. Sigarni the silver-haired. Huntress, whore, princess. All of these she was called. But those who pierce the veil of the future knew that a leader was coming to the North - a leader descended from Ironhand, mightiest of the highland kings.

Rhyming Rings is a never-before-seen Gemmell novel, discovered in his papers by his widow, Stella Gemmell. Merging autobiographical details of Gemmell's life as a journalist in South London with a serial killer and a tinge of the supernatural, this is perfect for fans of David's work as well as fans of gritty crime novels. Set against the backdrop of a London simmering with poverty, change and racial tension, this taut thriller is a fitting legacy for the great writer.

Summary
For centuries the tribes of the Nadir have suffered under the despotic tyranny of their Gothir overlords. Disunited and distrustful of one another, the tribes await the coming of a Messianic warlord, who will unite them against the oppressors.
Into this swirling, chaotic landscape come three men who will change the fate of the continent: Talisman, the mysterious, enigmatic Nadir warrior, haunted by his past and filled with dreams of finding the Uniter; Sieben the Poet, searching for the mysteries of life and love; and Druss the Axeman, determined to find two mystic gems to heal a mortally wounded friend.
Together they will journey across a war-torn land and descend beyond the gates of Hell, where a long-dead king holds the key to a secret that will change the world.
The Legend of Deathwalker, this battle-charged tale of Druss among the Nadir, completes the circle begun with Legend and Druss the Legend.

Superb book, technical issue though
Sean Barrett as usual delivers a superb rendition of the always excellent Gemmell. So why three stars? Needed a proper listen through by the publishers. A couple of chapters loop back to the start half way through, which is a little frustrating, and a bit of a poor show. If this happened in the printed book it would have been picked up. Not sure why it’s been left like this for audio?

Gemmell tells a magical and enthralling story with vibrant characters, none better than Druss, the man who is the Drenai. A Man of Rock and Iron
I found the ending of this final book on Druss to be particularly sad. It tells of the time when Ulrich meets Druss for a final meal outside the gates of Dros Delnoch just before his death, only Druss does not recognise the warrior he befriended all those years ago when they battled together at the Shrine of Oshikai Demon Bane. The years have taken their toll on Ulrich, . Then, Ulrich was known as Talisman, a young warrior and his Nadir name had not been chosen. He crushed the eyes of Alchazzar to return life to the Nadir land. In doing this, his eyes were turned forever violet. Ulrich does not remind him of their time together. Just so sad. We also see Sieben, Druss’ lifelong friend die. It is the end of an era that will never see their like again.
I have marked this down as the editing was missed towards the end of this book which meant it became repetitive.

surprisingly I love the Dreanai series
I never thought I would enjoy basically books about warriors but the story and characters have me hooked the narrator is superb and I wont hesitate to read every book in the series. I started with Waylander and didn't think i would fall in love with any other heroe but I did. just live the old fashioned honour code and doing the right thing. It reminds me of my fathers generation where a man's word meant something and there seemed to be a code of honour which seems to be lacking in our modern day world.
