Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Return to the Scholomance—a school of magic unlike any you have ever encountered—in the stunning sequel to the Sunday Times best-selling A Deadly Education, the start of Naomi Novik's groundbreaking crossover series.

There are no teachers, no holidays; friendships are purely strategic, and the odds of survival are never equal. Once you're inside, there are only two ways out: you graduate, or you die.

El, Orion and the other students are faced with their final year—and the looming spectre of graduation. El is determined that her chosen group will survive, but it is a prospect that is looking harder by the day as the savagery of the school ramps up. Until El realises that sometimes winning the game means throwing out all the rules....

Wry, witty, endlessly inventive and mordantly funny—yet with a true depth and fierce justice at its heart—this enchanting novel reminds us that there are far more important things than mere survival.

So good!

Loved the worldbuilding detail, action, friendship and romance. I noticed one minor error in the narration (a line repeated) but Dadia's performance was generally great. Can't wait for the next installment!

5 outstanding stars!

I didn't think I could like this any more than book 1, I was so wrong! This book was everything I could have hoped for and more.

That ending was soul crushing, how can I possibly wait another year or more for book 3?!

I hesitate to recommend this book...

Not because it isn't thoroughly brilliant - it is! The narration is excellent, the plot gripping, the characters likeable and engaging...but the ending will have you screaming "NO!!!!!" Thankfully, I believe a third book in this series is to be released next year to put us all out of our misery!

Loved it

The second book in the scholomance series, this does not disappoint. The world is wonderful, the characters pleasantly sarcastic and the story is gripping.

Great story, dodgy narrator

Great book, but the narration is terrible; comes across as try hard, annoying emphasis on every other word, strange pronunciation of some words, terrible, terrible accents and a uk/Indian accent which doesn’t fit given the protagonist is Welsh. A shame as it’s a great story

Just brilliant, a fresh take on wizarding schools

Brings all the angst and emotions of being a teenager into a story of immensely powerful kids fighting for their lives against a school that wants them dead.

Great story, love it.
