Summary

From the bestselling author of the Charlie Parker mystery series - 'the finest crime series currently in existence' (Independent) - comes a new book for fans of THE BOOK OF LOST THINGS.

Twice upon a time - for that is how some stories should continue...

Phoebe, an eight-year-old girl, lies comatose following a car accident. She is a body without a spirit, a stolen child. Ceres, her mother, can only sit by her bedside and read aloud to Phoebe the fairy stories she loves in the hope they might summon her back to this world.

But it is hard to keep faith, so very hard.

Now an old house on the hospital grounds, a property connected to a book written by a vanished author, is calling to Ceres. Something wants her to enter, and to journey - to a land coloured by the memories of Ceres's childhood, and the folklore beloved of her father, to a land of witches and dryads, giants and mandrakes; to a land where old enemies are watching, and waiting.

To the Land of Lost Things.

For anyone who loved THE BOOK OF LOST THINGS and for all listeners who enjoy dark, beautifully crafted fables that explore the heart of the human condition: love, loyalty and sacrifice.

Enchanting

Enchanting 💚 absolutely loved this story. John Connolly always produces the most incredible stories. I didn't want this story to ever end. Just perfect.

Not nearly as good as the original

Character was less likeable. Very anti men elements obviously shoehorned in frequently. I still like the woodcutter and the crooked man but I felt little empathy or positivity towards the main character.

A fascinating book

This book is beautifully written and absolutely captivated my imagination. John Connolly never disappoints the stories are seamlessly intertwined with old friends from The Book of Lost Things, whilst new strong and well developed characters are introduced. It is much more than a fairy tale, it is stories with in a narration which makes you reconsider what you thought you already knew and understood about life, family and the world. But at the same time it draws you away as all good stories should and leaves your imagination to soar while you are entertained and plunged into another world. It absolutely did not disappoint.

huge fan of the first book, so was worried the sequel wouldn't live up to it but is amazing! really loved Ceres, such a cool character and the plot was really touching!

A wonderful escape!

An effortlessly engaging story read by an excellent narrator who brings each of the characters to life.

Mesmerising tour de force.

There are good books and not so good ones, some are predictable or pedestrians but every once in a while there are gems. This is one of them. There are so many stories, dark fairy tales and mythological creatures and a narrative that meanders in the best possible way. I was mesmerised throughout. One of the best book I have come across in a long time. Highly recommended.

it was a little slow to start but once it got going I loved it almost as much as The Book of Lost Things. Very inventive story and lovely to meet old friends from the past. I would highly recommend
