Summary

In the third installment of USA Today bestselling author Christi Caldwell's Sinful Brides series, a kingpin of London's underbelly risks his heart on the woman he's hired to protect.

London, 1822

At the notorious Hell and Sin Club nestled in London's dark streets, Niall Marksman relishes taking the fortunes of the very same society that once disregarded his existence. Oh yes, Niall has sold his soul to the devil and paid dearly. It's only when Lady Diana Verney appears at the gaming club looking for help that Niall knows that the devil has finally come to collect...by forcing him to protect the duke's pampered daughter.

Disdained by the peerage and ignored by her father, Diana knows that someone wants to harm her. Her only protection is Niall, a scarred, intense man who lives and dies by the knife. Now her life and safety are in the hands of the most dangerous man in London. But a man raised on the city's mercenary streets is adept at stealing anything he wishes - including a lady's reputation and her heart.

Loved it

Loved every minute of it. This is another of my favourites. Such a beautiful love story. I cried and I laughed and enjoyed it so much. Tim Campbell really brings out the emotions of each character. He's brilliant. I have read many books but since I have been listening to Tim Campbell's narrating I prefer listening soo much more. The emotions are felt so much more on audio with a good narrator. And there are quite a few narrators I like listening to but Tim is my favourite.

skimming in boredom

No clever dialogue, nothing quite believable or intriguing. Falling in love with a man from St Giles, that still spoke without pronouncing his H's and used "oi" instead of an I, was such a stretch. He switched to cockney often especially when upset or angered which was often and then a cultured voice the rest of the time and yet he hated members of the Ton. Copying their speech was not normal for someone who hated the upper crust. Much made no sense. All in all I was ready to quit after 3 hours went by and not much happened. An unrealistic storyline which did not draw me in at all.

Delicious...yum 😉

I honestly don’t know how anyone could give this book ‘The Lady’s Guard’ a bad review? Let’s think about it real quick, this is Part 3, and it’s all about sinful delights.. So the characters don’t need ‘3 dimensions’ they need to come over as believable and they were! I loved it! I stayed up till 5 am to finish it, that’s how much I adored the characters and their story.

Plus and a big plus..I’m in love with Tim Campbell’s voice! Can he read to me daily!! Yum..yum 😘😘

5 stars ⭐️ plus!

TWO TORTURED LONELY SOULS

This is the first time I have given a book in Sinful Bride series 5 stars. The Lady's Guard was excellent. It picks up a year after bk.2 The Scoundrel's Honor. This is the story of Lady Dianna Verney the Legitimate Daughter of the Duke of Wilkinson.

Niall Marksman is co owner of the Hell and Sin Club a notorious gaming hell in St. Giles. Niall is head of the Security for the club. All of the owners of the club grew up together in the rookeries of St. Giles, stealing, killing and all sort of crimes to keep alive. They were also, badly abused by the older men who hired made them commit these crimes. But Niall's and his street brother got out and build a successful and very profitable Gaming Club.

I loved Lady Diana she is just a hurt and very lonely soul but she is rich, beautiful, very young and the daughter of a rich Duke. Diana's mother the Duchess of Wilkinson had tried to kill her husband The Dukes Illegitimate children Ryker Black primary owner of the Hell and Sin club and his sister Helena. Diana had no idea they existed. Once the Ton found out about it Diana and her father were of course ostracized from polite society. Diana's father has gone into a state of mourning, he loved his mistress and never knew what had happen to her and his children by her. He had never shown Diana that love and she felt it was because he never loved her mother. You can really feel Diana's pain she is just unwanted and this is a fact. She is so kind, intelligent and beautiful but terribly lonely and neglected. Some one is trying to kill her. Her father doesn't believe her but after the 3rd attempt she decides to seek the help of her Half Brother Ryker Black. Who she believes doesn't want to have anything to do with her. He has not contacted her or invited her to his wedding, so she is not sure if he will help. Especially after what her mother did to his mother and him and his sister.

Ryker helps her by sending Niall to guard her. Niall hates the peerage. He hates this job of guarding the Princess. But brave Diana breaks down his defenses with her kindness and bravery. Niall comes to see she is not a high minded lady of the Ton but is very much a mistreated soul like himself.

The build up to Naill and Diana falling in love is just beautifully done. There dialog is believable. They are two tortured lonely souls that find each other and a everlasting love. The ending was so perfect!! This is a Must Read but read the other two books first because they connect.

Great tale, great narration

I really enjoyed Niall' & Diana's story. It's a great addition to this very enjoyable series. Tim Campbell did an amazing job narrating this book....with all the different accents. He does cockney really well and switches easily between cockney and sophisticate.

Every time I listen to a Christi Caldwell book, I'm amazed at her story-telling ability. Having read regency romance books all my adult life (I'm 72) Christi's stories of St. Giles and the rookeries are refreshing. A whole new world has been opened to me.

Like the other books in this series, this book tells the story of an aristocrat and a cockney commoner who fall in love...yes...this is a romance afterall. The characters are so rich and powerful....I couldn't stop listening.

The Lady's Guard

Very good granted its important to read the first two at least the second one. Worth the money but it did suck that the last 2 were more $ than the first 2. I enjoyed Christi Caldwell never heard of her until Audible.

Wonderful Story

A wonderful story about love and the realization of how not all people are what they seem. This is one of the best performances I have ever heard. Kudos to Tim Campbell.
