Summary

Leah Townsend, a recently orphaned heiress, flees Richmond after discovering her fiancé’s plot to kill her after their wedding. She needs a safe place to hide, and finds herself accepting a newspaper marriage proposal from a God-fearing young rancher in the Montana Territory. But when Leah arrives at the mountain ranch, she learns her intended husband was killed by a grizzly, leaving behind a bitter older brother and a spunky younger sister.

When Gideon Bryant finds an Eastern lady standing in his log cabin, his first thought is to send her back where she came from. He’s lost too many people to the wild elements of these mountains—his parents, his wife, and now his brother. His love for this untamed land lives on, but he’s determined not to open his heart to another person.

But when an accident forces Leah to stay at the ranch for seven more months, can Gideon protect his heart from a love he doesn’t want? Has Leah really escaped the men who seek her life?

Thoroughly enjoyed!

Liked the story. Liked the narrator. Very refreshing to listen to a book without ANY profanity. Looking forward to the next book.

A little unbelievable

I enjoyed the light romance but felt that some of the situations the characters found themselves in were born of stupidity. I just felt that they wouldn’t happen with a bit of intelligence.

A good read

There’s a lot happening in this story. I love that the action moves along at a brisk pace, with characters in real life situations, putting their hearts out there and facing dangers together.
It’s sad that it’s such a thrilling story but yet, when the end is reached and the main characters arrive home together, there’s no mention made of the sister at all, although she lives there and presumably hadn’t moved out. That was somewhat disturbing, as though the author was in a galloping hurry to get on with her to do list. I’ll always wonder why that character apparently dropped off the face of the earth.
I have to add an accolade for the narrator, Leonor Woodworth. It’s pleasant to listen to a sweet voice of someone who can make it clear which person is speaking.

maybe a perfect read for an Evangelical reader.

if you like a reed that's very preachy with an intrusive God to save you, this may be for you. too many events are set into place because the heroin overhears stuff. she is passive, waiting for God to save her at every turn.

Great Christian book

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. After five bushing all of Lynn Austin’s books I have been searching for an author that weaves scripture and faith into the lives of her characters. Bringing some to Christ in the book. Not just a quick mention of God. Finally I have found another. I’m thrilled to dig into more of her books!

Will purchase the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the way the main character’s faith was interwoven throughout the story. It felt natural and believable. It kept my interest and I was never bored. The author does a good job painting a picture with her descriptive language. I will purchase the next book in the series.
