Summary

In this passionate, emotional regency romance by Christi Caldwell, society's most wicked rake meets his match in the clever Lady Chloe Edgerton! And nothing will ever be the same!

She doesn’t believe in marriage....

The cruelty of men is something Lady Chloe Edgerton understands. Even in her quest to better her life and forget the past, men always seem determined to control her. Overhearing the latest plan to wed her to a proper gentleman, Chloe finally has enough...but one misstep lands her in the arms of the most notorious rake in London.

The Marquess of Tennyson doesn’t believe in love....

Leopold Dunlop is a ruthless, coldhearted rake...a reputation he has cultivated. As a member of The Brethren, a secret spy network, he’s committed his life to serving the Crown, but his rakish reputation threatens to overshadow that service. When he’s caught in a compromising position with Chloe, it could be the last nail in the coffin of his career, unless he's willing to enter into a marriage of convenience.

A necessary arrangement....

A loveless match from the start, it soon becomes something more. As Chloe and Leo endeavor to continue with the plans for their lives prior to their marriage, Leo finds himself not so immune to his wife - or to the prospect of losing her.

She is a " Passive Aggressive".

The story will pull you along to start with, it could have been enjoyable except for the stupid gaffs. However; it deteriorates as it goes on, becoming more and more frustrating.
She lays down ridiculous rules to get married, then breaks them all to suit herself.
He is meant to be a long term spy, yet breaks down and tells all at the drop of a hat. In fact any country would be better off without such a WIMP. It is amazing he lasted so long in the profession.
They were both abused children, he breaks and tells all, she doesn't.
He can't touch her, but must remain celibate; he wants to bed his wife, but doesn't want children. He won't speak about his passed, his work etc, but blabbers not stop.
The heroine forces a woman to face her worse experiences, as she decideds her husband needs to be forgiven. A bit like saying, "I know he raped you, but he was young, he really cared for you, so you should forgive him, as he is hurting".
I do not like the heroine, she actually becomes her father; controlling, manipulative and bullying. A true "Passive Aggressive", to ensure she always remains in control. This type is more dangerous as they don't use physical violence, but emotional violence. He bends over backwards to please, nothing like the character that is described, a total WIMP.
Then thrown in the brother and other over the top characters, and the whole becomes farcical.
It get two stars for the narrator's efforts to try and make the story work, otherwise it would be NO STARS.
