Summary

Sarah's grandfather was a horseman of rare talent - only the exceptional are allowed into France's elite riding academy, Le Cadre Noir. But life took an unexpected turn, and now from a council estate in east London, the Captain hopes to train his granddaughter towards a better life.

Natasha is a lawyer whose job is to represent the best interests of children. Her confidence in her judgement has been shaken and her marriage has died - but an encounter with Sarah may lead to Natasha learning all she needs to know about life from a fourteen-year-old girl and a large horse named Boo.

Amazing, heart warming story

Loved the story, so much so that I looked up the history of the riding school and watched clips of the riders on you tube, amazing! Brilliant writing as always, love jojo moyes books. I listen on the way to and from work and she just whisks you away to other places, fantastic way to spend a journey :) can't wait to read more of her books.

You don't have to be horsey to enjoy this.

I read this book many years ago and revisited it because I remembered it well enough to know that I enjoyed it but could not recollect the entire story. It works well as an audio book.

The best book I have ever read

A roller coaster of emotions, as an equestrian of 50yrs, a retired nurse and psychotherapist and many life experiences similar to the subjects in the book, it is so accurate and knowing. I loved it!! It will appeal to everyone . Well done Jo Jo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Emotional roller coaster

I struggled with this book to start with, I think the narrator put me off, it just seemed a wrong fit for this type of book to me.
Once I got into the story however I did like it, though I will say the only likeable character in this is Sarah and of course her horse.
I found myself in tears at some points with her plight and that of her horse. Growing up I was a very horsey person so having that in this book really appealed to me.
I saw other reviews getting pressed about things not working like this in real life, to which I would initially say this is a fiction book so of course there are things that might not happen in real life, but having now listened to it and having some first-hand experience with child services I don't find it that far fetched to be honest.
I have listened to a few Jo Jo moyes books now and they are all so different to each other I don't know how they do it lol but I'm ready for more

A moving story of child & horse

I love JoJo's work, never been disappointed. This lives up to my expectations. A beautiful & moving story of love, loss and an insight into a world otherwise unknown.

Enjoyed this book once it had got going. The narration was very good French accent believable.
