About this listen

Rachel O'Malley works disasters for a living. Her specialty is helping children through trauma. For years Rachel has touched grief as she helps others through it, but now grief is something very personal - she is losing her own sister to cancer.

Helping the other O'Malleys through the crisis is taking everything Rachel has to give. When a school shooting rips through her community, she must lean hard against God to find the strength to help the children. For there is more than just sorrow confronting her, there's a secret. One of the students was there. One of them witnessed the shooting. And the murder weapon is still missing.

Tissues needed!

This is (including the prequel) the 7th O'Malley book, Rachel and Cole's story. It started back in Jack's story, "The Protector", and wends it's way through a flood, a double homicide and other hard and traumatic incidents (no spoilers), the joy of two O'Malley weddings and the toughest of all the trials the O'Malleys have been through. If you are at all prone to tears tissues *will* be needed. As well as a couple of lough out loud moments. Henderson has the usual, well drawn, cast of characters and introduces a number of new ones I came to care deeply about. Not an easy story to write well but I felt the interweaving strands came together intriguingly, the how we got there just as important as where we were going.

The change of pace in the story from drama to romance to deep pathos to family comedy is a challenge to a narrator but it's pulled off here with a good sense timing and pace.

If you want the other O'Mallies on digital audio and you are on Amazon UK... your out of luck as of Aug 2012. Come on Amazon! You're the only one with the digital rights. Do you *want* to make me buy CDs and tie me to the sound system?!
