Birthplace of the American flag

Such an excellent idea for a series, exploring a topic by finding and relating a plethora of little known facts in an amusing, easy to absorb way and helping to reinforce them with a short quiz after each section. This did-you-know romp around the keystones Start has sections on Pennsylvania's history i, pop culture, attractions, inventions and ideas, the supernatural and spooky and, finally, sport. Really excellent for lovers of trivia and, especially those who enjoy taking part in quiz contests. Did you know, for example, that it is against the law to sing in the bath? And that the state was named, not by William Penn, himself, who wanted it called New Wales, but by Charles II after Penn's father?

Narration by Scott Miller is pleasantly modulated, clear and an easy listen. Paced perfectly to allow the facts to filter threw, his voice also carried a hint of humour. There is a little repetition as the written heading is immediately repeated by the opening line of what is to come, but this is not overly intrusive..

Interesting, quirky, often funny, this a great way to learn a lot quite effortlessly, I can really recommend this book to all fact seekers whether for competition entries or simple fact gathering for fun. My thanks to the rights holder who, when I requested a copy of The Great Book of Pennsylvania, freely gifted me a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. Read, learn and enjoy.
