About this listen
The violent, poignant story of how Oswald de Lacy came to be Lord of Somershill.
Oswald de Lacy, Lord of Somershill, sits at his mother's deathbed.
Before she dies, he must make a confession. He needs to tell of the days when he was 18 years old, the third, disregarded son of the family, sent off to become a monk, working in the infirmary while plague raged outside the monastery. Of how he was sent to a nearby village and witnessed the death of a local girl, and how he swore to investigate...and how he was drawn into a crime so dark and terrifying, it haunts him - and his family - still.

a story with many twists and turns.
Oswald seemed a bit wet at first. I was used to books where the hero was physically strong, shrewd and had fighting skills! Oswald had none of these but he grew and learned and was kind and still managed to defeat baddies with brother Peters help. I loved the historical detail in all the books especially about Wycliffe etc. It took me a while to get used to the narrator as he had such a young voice but then Oswald was young too. I enjoyed his reading as he did womens voices well and didn't make them sound like old mother Riley. ( if anyone remembers her). I'm sad all the stories are finished. What can I listen to now?
