Summary

All sixteen-year-old Tommin wants is to make beautiful shoes and care for his beloved grandmother, but his insatiable need to steal threatens to destroy everything. Driven by a curse that demands more and more gold, he's sure to get caught eventually.

When mysterious Lorcan Reilly arrives in town with his "niece," Eve, Tommin believes the fellow wants to help him. Instead, Lorcan whisks him off to the underground realm of the Leprechauns, where, alongside Eve, he's forced to prepare to become one of them.

As Lorcan's plans for his "gold-children" are slowly revealed, Tommin and Eve plan their escape. But with Tommin's humanity slipping away, the fate-crossed pair has everything to lose unless they can find a way to outsmart a magical curse centuries in the making.

Aimed at a younger public, but still enjoyable

While I can see this book being more fun to middle schoolers, at 27 I cherished the moments I spent listening to the wonderful Gerard Doyle telling the story of a boy cursed to become a leprechaun.

This book has a fairy tale feel to it, but it's a fresh take on the folklore. I will be sure to check her other book that covers mermaids. What can I say, I'm young at heart and it the story was well told and entertaining! :)

Folking Fantastic!

This is a wonderful folk tale told with equal parts fantasty and humanity. Carrie Ann Noble pulls you into a magical world that overlaps with our own in a wonder-filled way. Gerard Doyle always shines, and really brings out the internal struggle of the protagonist, who is trapped between two worlds.

Again!

The Mermaid's Sister is one of the best books I have ever read. I was counting down the days until the release of this book and devoured it. Different creative story told just as well as my favorite. I will keep coming back to Carrie Ann Noble. Can't wait for the next book. Truly one of the smartest fantasy writers out there. Also loved the touch of the Irish narrator. Really added to the performance of the story. Very worth the wait. So pleased.

Whimsical

Gerald Doyle gave a wonderful performance!!!! He has such a lovely rich voice throughout the whole story and the way he brings out the characters to life, one can't help but feel like they are part of the story!!!! The story is lovely too but the Mermaid's Sister is a better story all the way around!!!!

ENCHANTING TALE !

I've NOT listened to a book quite like it. I was taken in, completely absorbed right from the start. This was an excellent story. I enjoyed that the whole plot wasn't bogged down by details of love like some authors do. the love story existed within the story but so did the mystery, all in perfect proportion. the narrative was amazing and not once did I cringe.
I do highly recommend this book.

I wasn’t sure...

... but this story is so lovely and imaginative. It takes you on an adventure to a less known world of Leprechauns, Fairies, and the like, with thrilling twists and turns. no matter what happens, the characters gain respect with every step. It’s a love story, a war story, and an every day story of friendship, devotion and risk. All I know, is I could really use a stick like Gladys. The end is almost as perfect as the narration. I suggest you listen to this book, and let your worries melt away. Highly recommended.

Doom and Gloom

Jeez. Bleak and cruel with no humor or glimmers of hope to lighten the heavy weight of this tale. Not only didn't I care for the dark story, which seemed to drone on and on, but I couldn't recall anyone's name. That's probably because I never connected with any of the characters. Overdoses of bleakness will do that to you. I try not to write a review unless I've stuck with it till the end but I just could not make myself listen to a minute more.

Human or Leprechaun, Love or Greed

I thoroughly enjoyed the audible presentation as much as I did another tour de force in the fantasy realm from Carrie Ann Noble. Leprechauns, gold, rainbows, servitude and no memories were what Tomen knew for so long, but coming back alive 2 centuries later leaves him well outside the law and offending magical worlds too.
