Summary

Based on the lives of real people and yet so brutal and shocking in places that it's almost impossible to believe, Mario Puza weaves a dark and compelling narrative that climaxes with a blistering showdown.

Tyrant, blackmailer, racketeer, murderer - his influence reaches every level of American society. Meet Don Corleone, a friendly man, a just man, areasonable man. The deadliest lord of the Cosa Nostra. The Godfather.

A modern masterpiece,The Godfather is a searing portrayal of the 1940s criminal underworld. It is also the intimate story of the Corleone family, at once drawn together and ripped apart by its unique position at the core of the American Mafia. Still shocking 40 years after it was first published, this compelling tale of blackmail, murder, and family values is a true classic.

The Godfather

Good narration and great book, I really loved the first two movies, but had never really considered reading the book. Glad I let it sit a while, so I could barely remember the small plot points in the film, and judge all the differences. I enjoyed the story, the plot points, some of the characters are very cliché, but i enjoyed it anyway. Wasn't anywhere close to being a favorite, but it was good enough.

Absolutely brilliant.

Loved it from start to finish. Narration was outstanding. Great job! I have never actually seen the films but after this I am desperate to see if it can live up to the book.

Superb 10/10

Enthralling

If you could sum up The Godfather in three words, what would they be?

Enthralling,
Immersive,
Ominous.

What did you like best about this story?

Having watched and enjoyed the films (several times) i was concerned that the book would be spoilt for me. The films do follow the book very closely but this didn't detract in any way from the enjoyment but actually added another layer of depth and understanding

Which character – as performed by Joe Mantegna – was your favourite?

Don't know - all of them maybe.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

i would have listened all in one sitting if i could. never wanted to stop.

Loved it!!!!

A brilliant and more detailed insight than the film portrays, you get more detailed character arcs from the characters shown in the film, I loved this book and couldn't put it down.

As good as the book

As this is one of my very favourite films and my book has ended up in shreds I was delighted to find this on audible. I was a bit wary that the narrator wouldn't be up to this book but he is perfect and if anything adds to it if possible!!! This will be one of my " listen to again and again" books 😀

If they gave Oscars for audiobooks....

Would you listen to The Godfather again? Why?

As a big fan of the film, this was almost as good as watching the movie. You never get tied of quality, and this is a terrific story with great characters, narrated brilliantly by Joe Mantegna.

Have you listened to any of Joe Mantegna’s other performances? How does this one compare?

This is the only Audiobook I have listened to narrated by Joe Mantegna. But you can tell why he is such a respected actor. Close your eyes and you're there.....

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listen as I travel, so my listening is dictated by my journeys. For the first time I was wishing my journeys were a little longer so I get head a bit more.

Really enjoyable

I'm so pleased I chose this audio book. I at first I was hesitant because the length and the topic, but once I started, I was caught. It is a classic after all. I also liked the voice of the narrator, he did a great job.
