About this listen

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Gift written and read by Arun Gandhi.

'Anger is good. It is an energy that compels us to define what is right and wrong' - Mahatma Gandhi, to his grandson, Arun

The moving, often irreverent, story of Arun's years growing up at the iconic Sevagram ashram provides the setting for the treasured moments spent his grandfather, which are an engaging and often surprising read. These memories give a rare insight into Gandhi the man behind the icon, and reveal the motivations behind his ten inspirational lessons.

Arun believes that the violence in the world today makes Gandhi's teachings more vital than ever, and The Gift places these lessons in a modern context, shedding new light on how Gandhi's principles can - and must - be applied to today's concerns.

Formerly published as The Gift of Anger.

The insight and wisdom of Gandhi's philosophy as told through the memories of his grandson should act as an inspiration to us all. Let us commit to a life of non violence and recognise how we are ALL interdependent. The author recalls the 2 years he spent living as a child with his grandfather Gandhi in his ashram in India. He elaborates on Gandhi’s teachings and includes anecdotal examples from more recent decades. With the exception of his laudable comments on Bill Gates Foundation ( I wonder if he would revise it?) I felt every word resonated with me and inspired me. Feeling angry in itself is not bad, it’s how we choose to channel that energy that counts. If only all our political leaders would read it! Will definitely re-listen and order a hard copy.

A true Gift for all, please listen to this!
