About this listen
The Fourth Clause is the much-anticipated sequel to No Easy Deeds—selected by Amazon as one of the top Kindle releases of 2024.
1990 has not been a vintage year for Danny Monk—a cheating fiancée, redundancy, and then a harsh lesson in the downsides of home ownership.
However, Danny’s life took a turn for the better after he secured a job as an estate agent. It was during his first week of employment that he visited a house on Echo Lane and met its owner, Mrs. Weller. The mysterious Mrs. Weller then made a too-good-to-be-true proposal.
That proposal proved to be the very tip of a miraculous iceberg, as the house on Echo Lane offered more than scenic views and ample parking—seemingly, it also featured a time portal to the year 2024. Or did it?
Despite his best efforts, Danny doesn’t achieve the happy ending he hoped for. Instead, he’s left with a head full of questions and a warning from Mrs. Weller that their story is far from over. Ignoring that warning, Danny decides to put the insanity of Echo Lane behind him and move on with his life.
However, Danny is about to discover that the future doesn’t appreciate being messed with. Nor, as it transpires, do certain figures in the present.
Love Shack by the B52s really is the worst song ever made!

I really enjoyed the first in the series and love how much the characters have developed since then. They’re all well-rounded, well thought out and have resonating personalities if you’ve worked in similar industries… I love the casual throw-backs to the 90’s too with now-defunct store names and products. The storyline is even better than the first in my opinion and has enough to twists to keep you guessing (especially the ending!). Can’t wait for the next installment. Thank you Keith, love your work.
A note - make sure you listen to the first in the series before this!
Loved it!!

The story was well thought out and got wrapped up fairly nicely for the next installment.
What I particularly like is the "characters" They are so easy to relate to and one finds yourself fixated on something that is quite mundane but the recipe is there for complete concentration due to the clever storyline.
Like all of Keith's books, they take a little warming up before unleashing a gripping tale of criminality. Thankfully good prevails and Danny gets some sort of reward.
Keep up the good work Keith and know you have many loyal followers who love your work.
Don't keep us waiting too long please fpr the next publication.

The Fourth Clause is exactly what I hoped for as the long-awaited sequel to the first Echo Lane book. Pearson has such a gift for building a narrative, dropping subtle hints about where it might go, then surprising you with clever turns. The characters are completely believable – I’ve met people just like those in the Gibley Smith office, and that sense of recognition makes the whole thing even more enjoyable.
Pearson’s writing is wonderfully imaginative but also packed with detail for those of us of a certain age. His references to the 1970s - 1990s are so evocative – it’s not just a great story but also a vivid trip down memory lane, recalling TV shows, shops and places that have vanished.
A word about the narrator: he’s superb. The pace is spot on, and he gives each character a distinct voice so you always know who’s speaking. It makes this an exceptionally easy listen.
I have no hesitation in giving this five stars – I’d give more if I could. As I’ve said before, Keith, if you could manage a new book every fortnight, I’d be quite content!
A Brilliant Sequel – Keith A Pearson at his best!
