Summary

Lady Henrietta has been in love with her neighbour since she was eight years old, and always known they were fated to be together. Unfortunately for her, Lord Cottingham seems oblivious to the fact they were made for each other.

When Henrietta is forced to acknowledge that Cottingham thinks of her as nothing more than a friend, she is determined to make him realise just what a diamond he has let slip through his fingers by making the ton fall in love with her instead.

When James Douglas, Lord Cottingham, returned home from a year in Montreal he expected life to be exactly as he left it. Unfortunately his best friend, Lady Henrietta, seems to have got a bee in her bonnet over his never replying to her letters, and suddenly he finds himself fighting for her time and attention not only with the best and the brightest of the ton, but with the handsome and roguish Duke of Devenish, who seems to be very taken with Henrietta.

As the two friends battle with their feelings for each other and the ton seeks to meddle at every turn, Henrietta must decide if there are better men out there than the boy she grew up with, and James must uncover the truth of his own heart before he loses something he loves forever.

The Foolish Friend can be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel or as part of the Regency Romps series.

Wonderful Heyer-esque books

I love the Regency Romps series!! I am a big Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer fan and I have also ready many “regency romances”. I’m not keen on the ones with raunchy scenes so I am thrilled with this series with its lovely romantic, funny, true to life in Regency England themes. I highly recommend these books. The performance is spot on and I can’t find one flaw in keeping of the language of the day. Very well done! I’m off to listen to the next one!

Another Genial Romance Adventure

Book Two in the Regency Romps Series does not disappoint. Elizabeth Bramwell as author and Julia Eve as narrator together create totally 'feel-good' romances that are clean and 100% fun and lively. I do believe this reflects the quirky and likeable personality of the author who is able to create engaging side characters and likeable leads who go on a heartfelt and emotional journey to find each other including some amusing scenes and small; touches such as the all-white gowns. I won't spoil but watch for this.

This is a Regency short story with a length of 4 hours and 48 minutes yet it feels complete and satisfying. I highly recommend this series.

Frothy

I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book. Julia Eve's narration was a bit better though.

Another exceptional classic romance

These stories have been such a delight to listen to. They are fun, refreshing and romance in its most classic form. I adore the storyline and the incredibly charming characters. I just can't get enough!

Julia is such a wonderful narrator. I love her voice, her accent, her charm and the character she brings to these stories. She really makes these something special.

~Georgette Heyer Regency Friends to Lovers

Regency era spirited hoyden heroine has loved her neighbor since childhood, and now he is back from the American wars. Delightful! #2 of 9 book series. Only minor character continuation from #1. Works well as stand alone. No description of sex. Written in the style of Georgette Heyer.

Wasn't my cup of tea

I had a hard time getting into The Foolish Friend, the second book in the Regency Romps series by Elizabeth Bramwell. I started listening to this book ages ago and put it aside. I’ve been working on my TBR list and decided to try again to mark it off my list. And once again, I had a hard time getting into the story. But this time, I persevered.

The Foolish Friend is about Henrietta and James. They are childhood friends, and Henrietta has always loved James. Now that she’s come of age, she wishes James would take notice of her and turn their friendship into more. Her grandmother, cousin, and the Duke of Devenish are all helping Henrietta with a makeover of her wardrobe and reputation in order for her to finally catch James’s eye.

I found myself having a tough time liking James and Henrietta. Both seemed quite shallow, and I couldn’t care less what was happening and whether or not they were going to find their happily ever after. More often than not, I found myself spacing out and not caring enough to rewind to see what I missed. It’s not a bad story, but it didn’t capture my attention.

The narration of Julia Eve is merely middle of the road. I like her accent, but I didn’t like the voices she did for the male characters. Her pacing and emoting were fine. I’d listened to her before, and I can’t pinpoint if it’s her performance, the book, or a combination of the two that just didn’t work for me this time around.

I didn’t enjoy the book and walked away feeling I’d wasted four hours of my time. The character development was lacking, and the romance was weak. This was my second listen of a book in this Regency Romps series, and it’s probably my last. But, not all books, or series, are for everyone.

Great Series!

This is the second book in the Regency Romps Series, a clean Regency Romance. You can listen to this story as a standalone. Henrietta and James's friends to lovers story is sweet and beautiful. The characters are great, and the storyline is well written, and captivating. If you like Regency Romance, you will love this one. Julia Eve did an outstanding job with the narration. I love her voice.

Cute book

I enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator was great and the story was very entertaining. It did have a few minor cuss words but nothing horrible. I was happy that there was a happy ever after at the end.

Great read

I really liked this book! The characters- while not always true to themselves, were well developed and fun! The storyline was slightly predictable but satisfying. I love that you could read it as a stand alone- but that it built on the last book. I’d recommend this book for anyone wanting a clean regency read!
The reader’s performance was fantastic! She reads at a great speed and has a perfect voice for the genre.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Let's hear it for number 2!

This book was a great addition to this series!

Henrietta and James have known each other pretty much their whole lives. And they have been in love nearly that long, it's just taking James a bit longer to realize this. Henrietta has given up on making him see her and she has decided to move on to find someone else to marry.

I enjoyed listening to this book. It was a fun and sweet book that captured my attention immediately. I enjoyed reading about both Henry and James. They had a great relationship and I wanted to see more of it. I do wish that there were more of their relationship instead of so much of them being apart. It felt like it took too long for them to realize that they could be together. But that did provide tension so it was enjoyed at the same time as it was frustrating. But overall, it was a great read and I look forward to reading the rest of this series!

Julia Eve did a fantastic job yet again! I loved her portrayal of all of the characters. She really brought the reader into the world and made the listening experience super enjoyable!

Another fun romp

Sweet romance. James is very dense and it takes a good knocking for him to understand his feelings. Henri is maybe a little petulant but her heart is broken so it is understandable. It is a quick reading, light, and fluffy romance. Nice for an evening's entertainment.
I listened to the audio version and found the narration to be well done. I plan to listen to the rest of the series as well.
