Summary
A loving mother. A perfect family. A shock wave that could shatter everything.
Freya Braithwaite knows she is lucky. Nineteen years of marriage to a man who still warms her soul and two beautiful teenage daughters to show for it: confident Charlotte and thoughtful Lexi. Her home is filled with love and laughter.
But when Lexi's struggles with weight take control of her life, everything Freya once took for granted falls apart, leaving the whole family with a sense of helplessness that can only be confronted with understanding, unity and, above all, love.
In this compelling and heart-wrenching new work by bestselling author Amanda Prowse, one ordinary family tackles unexpected difficulties and discovers that love can find its way through life's darkest moments.

Just amazing..........
I think this was the third or fourth Amanda Prowse novel I've listened to and each one leaves me awe-struck.
I've said in a previous review of her work that she either has personal experience of each subject matter OR she lives, and breathes superb research.
This novel takes the listener through every emotion such mental illness must cause within even the closest families. I was exhausted by the end mainly because of the emotional rollercoaster the story took me on twinned with " one more chapter, one more chapter" even at 3 o clock in the morning!
Read by Amanda herself in the way that she intended it to be portrayed..... Absolutely fabulous.
Now... on to my next AP audiobook.!

So enlightening.
So enlightening as to the terrible struggles and effects of anorexia, both on the sufferer, but also their family. A very heart wrenching and so at times a difficult listen, but totally absorbing. Thank you Amanda for educating me.

Not very impressed.
Considering these parents, Freya and Lockie are portrayed as educated 'middle class' people, and they have two teenagers, they seem very uninformed about Anorexia and Bulimia; I assumed all parents would have at some stage read articles and watched documentaries about them, especially with the obsession a lot of young people have now about body image.
Freya has her articles about all aspects of healthy eating published and she sounds totally obsessed with cooking these meals for her family, even though her husband is gagging for some chips!!
She says she has often commented on overweight people and how gross they look due to eating fatty food. The problem with all this is that her obsession is all too extreme and although the one daughter hasn't shown signs of an eating disorder obviously Lexi has, with traumatic consequences.
I'm not a doctor, these are just my personal opinions formed when I studied psychology many years ago.

Powerful and emotional
Difficult in many ways to hear but beautifully written and read. I found it an eye opener about a terrible illness and well worth hearing the story. I loved the characters in this book and the amazing relationship of the parents.
The story is raw but so poignant.

Will tear your heart out
I consider myself a pretty hard man. I've fought in combat, jumped out of airplanes, raced in Ironman triathlons but Amanda Prowse's story about how easy it is for a child to be struck by an eating disorder brought tears to my eyes.

Informative
This book is a little dry and slow but it does give a very informative view of life dealing with anorexia and how it effects the entire family.

Food of Love Not Digestible for Me
I did not care for the storyline so much. I got impatient with the mother because of her blind and soft "afraid of hurting Lexi's feelings" treatment to the point of almost letting her die.

Girl starves herself, and that's about it...
...for this story.
I read The Art of Hiding by the same author and enjoyed it, so I thought I'd try this. It was not the book for me.
If you already know about anorexia, don't bother with this. 80 percent of the books is Lexi starving herself. Little else happens. The POV is from the mother's perspective, and she's well rounded. The other two characters are the husband and other daughter--not so well developed, especially the sister.
If you have anorexia or know someone who does, maybe this is the book for you. The writing is good and the thought process and actions of a person with anorexia as well as the physical manifestations are well detailed.

AP fan
AP has a way of drawing me in with the topics of the day I didn't think that I'd really be interested in a story about an eating disorder but once again she puts it down as if I know the struggle this family is going through that any family can be going through with any type of problem or conflict so she has a great gift of making this seem real and clearly the topics she chooses and How Deeply she gets into the family Dynamics I enjoy listening to her I think I don't care what she writes about I just want her to read to me I enjoy her narrations to say the least

A very hard truth to read.
I found myself angry with the parents, even knowing their choices were impossible to make. Separating what's best for our children, and what they want is always difficult.
