Summary

THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

Claire and Eva lead very different lives, but they have one thing in common - they are both in huge danger and need to disappear.

A chance encounter at the airport presents the two women with a simple but crazy solution: switch places then drop off the grid when they land.

But one woman will never reach her destination.

In a smart, tense and twisting narrative that will have you hooked from the first page to the last.

Critic reviews

"Bristling with suspense and crammed with false clues, it would make a fine Hitchcock film." (Daily Mail)

"I couldn't put it down' has never been more true! Crying out to be turned into a Netflix series." (Prima)

Superior and Gripping

I enjoyed this book and found it to be different from the usual psych story. Two women seemingly unconnected but both running from something exchange identities. What follows is very clever and interesting and keeps the listener engaged until the very end. The only gripe I have is the narrator who at times really grated with a very specific intonation for some characters. This did not spoil the listen as the story is so good.

Surprisingly good

Generally speaking, the more a book is promoted by various book sites, the worse it is. So I really didn't expect much of this author I hadn't heard of, but I was desperate for something to read and the summary was intriguing. What a surprise to find a tightly written, well plotted book of which very little was predictable. I found myself both keen to read on and wishing it wouldn't end. Don't hesitate, it's one of my reading year's real finds.

Genuinely thrilling

The opening few chapters of this book were some of the most tense and exciting I have heard in this genre for a while. The book uses the well-established format of alternating chapters between the two female protagonists. It's a format I quite like and it works well here. I always wanted to know what happened next and there was more tension and a couple of twists towards the end. The narrator did a great job. It would have been nice to have two narrators to voice the alternating chapters though.

Great narration, average story

Story wasn’t really for me - derivative. Plus all the make characters were essentially bad or negative.

Good, easy thriller!

I really enjoyed this book and got through it quickly. Good story with a bit of a twist at the end. Preferred Claire’s story to Eva’s - felt myself zoning out a bit listening to the latter until the last few chapters, but overall I enjoyed it and would recommend!

Great story

I really enjoyed the story although I didn’t feel like there was enough tension or jeopardy to make me worry about the characters that much. It would make a great film though.

Don’t waste your credit

A really solid story concept and audio performance.
I don’t recommend this book. The storytelling was little disappointing, considering how great the concept is. There was so much scope for a detailed exploration into the two main leads that just didn’t really go anywhere.

voice did not reflect characters

I read nearly half the book before switching on and off w Audible. I was surprised by the insecure voice of both characters. While reading only, I felt the women coursgeous, unsure at times, but mostly brave and determined. I did not think the shakey voice matched the characters.
