Summary
On nothing more than a lark, he leaves his family and begins a journey from Ohio westward. Along the way, he runs up against badlands and bad men, loses his freedom, gains his freedom and learns the first rule of the frontier: Do whatever it takes to survive.
With ruthless enemies after him - both White men and Indians - he’ll head for a place as brutal as it is beautiful - the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. Two years later, he will come back down from the mountaintop with new skills and a new future as one of the most feared and admired men of his time...a man called Preacher.
Mountain man Preacher's plans to attend the annual rendezvous are changed when he agrees to lead a train of 60 wagons on the last leg of the rugged trail to Oregon, confronting scheming outlaws and hostile Native Americans along the way.

Really enjoyed this particular weastern.. ☺
Good from beginning to end imo 👌 being a Blackman who enjoys weastern books and movies its nice to not to hear or there not be a negative mention of a black person, most of white America more than likely think there was never a such thing lol a black cowboy 🤠 not knowing the true history of the west .. a whitewashed history....when there were legends like BASS REAVES who probably was the best lawman of the west but because of being black it was never truly told until recently..it's sad to have learned about it after I was grown ,plus the many more incorrect or never told true history of blacks in America..anyways didn't mean to go off the rail but hopes this will at least have one white person dig deeper into all the great things blacks were involved in because a lot ! of books and movies would lead you to believe there was never such a thing ... when the title itself had something to do with a black boy working cattle... COWBOY! you're welcome 😊

The First Mountain Man, The beginning.
These three Graphic, Dramatized , Audio books were as usual excellent Western stories. I Have listen to Mr. Johnstone's audio of the adventures of Preacher before and thought when I saw this set advertised as it was like listening to a movie, but not seeing a picture, but will all the sounds of one with a full cast. I thought I would give it a try. The stories were well written and the characters did an excellent job Narrating. It was nice for me to learn of where Preacher came from and how he became involved with Smoke Jensen. In the books of Preacher I have either read or listened to, he had already aged and was a Mountain man for years. The thing that I didn't care for was the background music. It was so loud at times, I couldn't hear the story. I skipped through it until it toned down a bit at times. Please lower the background volume down of the music. I
I think I will stick to regular Audio books for now. I might try the other type later to see if they are more serene.

Music overshadowed the narration
This might have been a good adaptation, except that I could hardly hear the narration over the musical score. I ended up returning after a few minutes out of frustration of not being able to hear the story without straining my ears.

Excellent at story but extra language not needed.
I love the movie in the mind concept but the added cussing and language is not necessarily which is why I returned the book because I have read the actual book and it has about 10% of the language that the graphic audio version has.

Very Entertaining
A very interesting and even funny in ways I never got from listening to previous version or reading the original book. The music is minimal, so not sure if they edited it since the previous reviews or those people just did not give the play more than a 1 minute listen.

A great introduction to Preacher
I enjoyed all three books in this bundle. I have a better understanding of Preacher prior to his days before he took in Smoke Jensen.
