Slow start but picked up
I struggled with the story at first and kept thinking I would return it . I’m glad I didn’t . I ended up really enjoying it . Listened or read all the Nicci French books and loved every one so that’s what kept me listening, so pleased I did continue with it.

Infuriating characters and dreadful narration
I have to agree with other reviewers that this was nowhere near as good as most of Nicci French's novels. The main character nearly drove me demented with her behaviour, and the story was full of jokes repetitive conversations that seemed to go nowhere. I started to count the number of times someone asked someone else "Are you all right?", when patently they weren't.
It might have been more bearable with a different narrator, but this one read the whole thing as if she was auditioning for a melodrama. Surely she could have been asked to tone it down at an early stage in the recording?

Unbelievable
Wish I’d checked the other reviews before wasting a credit on this drivel. The book’s premise, of doing a favour for an old flame, is just about plausible. However, the story goes downhill from there - a nightmare mix of nasty characters, over- complex plot and bad choices. The reading suits the book - over dramatic and often irritatingly whiny. Shame.

Disappointing
I have really enjoyed Nicki French books so far, but this one is very dull for the majority of the book. I have also listened to several books narrated by Imogen Church, and never had an issue, but in this book the narration of some of the characters (Billie in particular) was dreadful. A really disappointing listen.

Disappointing
I usually enjoy Nicci French novels so I was happy to see a new title available.
Unfortunately this is not up to the usual standard and I returned before finishing.
I found the narration rather odd and jarring so this contributed to my decision to return.

Disappointing and poor narration
I have always enjoyed Nicci French books but this was not the best. The irritating narration made it hard work. I stuck with it to find out the ending but it was disappointing.

Awful narrator
I have listened to several books read by Imogen Church now and never again. The sarcastic questioning tone is just dreadful. It completely rhins it for me Such a shame.
