Summary

Amos Decker, David Baldacci's unique special agent with the gift of a remarkable memory, returns in The Fallen

Small towns which have seen better times are not unusual. But the mysterious events in Baronville, Pennsylvania, are raising the highly tuned antennae of Agent Amos Decker and his FBI partner, Alex Jamison. What was supposed to be a relaxing vacation turns into a murder investigation when two bodies are found in a nearby deserted house.

With the body count rising, Decker and Jamison dig deep to uncover a sinister truth in Baronville, which could be the canary in the coalmine for the rest of the country.

But even the duo's skills and Amos Decker's infallible memory may not be enough to save this town, or them, from becoming the next victims.

Giving up on Baldacci

I've listened to quite a few of Baldacci's different protagonists and to be honest I'm fed up of the formula .. The main body of the stories are all efficient enough (although I'm never completely convinced by the logical progressions) - but it's the overly dramatic and unconvincing endings that constantly let them down, always involving an avalanche of exposition resembling the ending of an episode of Scooby Doo .. So with his determination to 'tell' as opposed to 'show' I think I'll be giving Mr Baldacci a miss from now on.

Not his best

The readers of this book gave a far better performance than the book deserved. I usually really like Amos Decker. Let’s put it this way if this was the first book with Amos as his main character I wouldn’t be buying another. But I know from the past books he can be a really great character.

Poor storyline with great storytelling.

not my thing

First of all let me say that I hated the two narrators device, with the male narrator reading all the male roles and the female all the females, but this I mean that if you had a conversation between two characters of opposite sex you would have two narrators doing each part; very annoying.
The book itself is even more irritating than the annoying narration, every single character is just a soundboard to show us how incredibly clever Decker is. The story itself becomes grotesquely convoluted by the end.

Mediocre a thriller without any thrills.

I bought this because at £1.99 it seemed worth a punt. It wasn't. The story is cliche ridden and the decision to flip between a male and female narrator simply doesn't work. Adding a wooden narration to a poor plot.

A good yarn but implausible

The latest Amos Decker story sees him and his sidekick Alex Jamison, on vacation together staying with her sister ‘s family. Immediately they get involved in an investigation of murder and conspiracy. The plot is ambitious to say the least and it is entertaining and well paced throughout though prone to cliche.
My immediate question was why would they vacation together? The next one was Why does Decker need Jamison at all apart from her being a vehicle for Decker to explain himself to readers? She does almost zero detective work. As the story progresses the murders mount up as the baddies try to contain things. Obviously such a strategy can’t work as the more bodies the greater the law enforcement response.
Anyway Decker solves everything more or less single handed as all the other cops are dumb or corrupt.
Fortunately in the end all the baddies are bang to rights or dead and the goodies are rich (apart from our heroes).
The problem with Decker and his altered personality state is that he is very one dimensional and apart from his talent as a detective nobody would want to go on vacation with him.

Yet again brilliant read

Thoroughly enjoyed this series so far. Such and in depth and precise details leave you constantly amazed by the character. The story line constantly throwing curve balls that kept me always yearning for each new chapter. All in all exceptional!

A good yarn if a bit far fetched.

I wanted to deviate slightly from Lee Child so I bought this D Baldacci title. Narrator was a bit annoying and I think because of this I found it hard to like the main character. Good story but all a bit too convenient.

Another masterpiece

Once again a book in the series that grips you from page one through the epilogue. Series that draws on investigative facts and relies on strong attributes by each character whilst toeing the emotional line.

Job well done!

I loved this story.

I could not stop reading this story. It was very fast paced. I can't wait for the next David Baldacci book to be released.
