Summary

A mother’s greatest wish—or darkest nightmare—comes true in this chilling classic audiobook thriller from the Master of Suspense, Dean Koontz.

“Koontz puts his readers through the emotional wringer.”–The Associated Press

In the year since her son Danny’s tragic death, Tina Evans has suffered incredible heartache. But now, with her Vegas show about to premiere, Tina might be ready to put her grief behind her and start over.

Until a shocking message appears on the chalkboard in Danny's room: NOT DEAD. Those two words send her on a terrifying journey from the bright lights of Las Vegas to the cold shadows of the High Sierras, where she uncovers a terrible secret.

Dated, ridiculous and predictable

Back in the early eighties this probably worked, in an early Stephen King way, (firestarter), but its barely listenable now, even though it's apparently been polished up by Koontz for reissue. The characters are impossibility fake, the dialogue dreadful. The narration doesn't help, brings no gravitas, just breathy cheap emoting.

First audiobook

This was my first audiobook and to be honest I wish my first choice had been better. I had heard a lot about this book and was really looking forward to the story but it was not what I was expecting. I found the story quite boring and even fell asleep more than once during the telling. I found the narrators voice dull and flat, maybe if there had been more inflections in her voice throughout the story it wouldn't have been as bad.

Life Imitating ART ? Dec 2019

I Could not believe it when I read an excerpt from this book then looked at the newspaper and heard the news coming out of China. But then again this book is based on actual places and loosely based on establishments doing science that could easily go wrong and cause massive global implications !......Feb 2020

This shows how important the narrator is.

The reading feels very flat and mechanic, like I was listening to Alexa or Siri. The characters are a bit flat and boring, they feel like Ken and Barbie. The storyline is interesting and if you want something easy to read it's an ok book.

Don't purchase for the Corona reason

I purchased and downloaded this book after the circulated messages and after many painful hours ( I wasted ) in the last chapter they talked about a virus which has nothing to do with Covid 19 so don't waste your credit or money on this book.

Good story

I loved the story . The performers voice was slightly annoying and she often had a humorous tone in her voice when there was absolutely no humour intended in the story. so that was a bit off putting.

Slow start but very good

Originally downloaded this as I heard it predicted the corona virus 30 years prior... which isn’t the case.
The book is entertaining though and a good read.
