My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Story
Despite all the warning bells, Black Friday arrives as a devastating tidal wave that completely destroys our fragile economy in a single day. There is panic in the streets as banks close their doors, seemingly forever, at noon. Store shelves are swept bare and the gas pumps soon run dry. Jimmy Logan watches in disbelief as his world crumbles before his eyes. Luckily, he has friends who have planned ahead for this nightmarish scenario and he joins up with a group who plan to ride the storm out in northern Minnesota. Some of their group will be dead before the sun sets.
Summary
The ships came at dawn. Dean’s wife is dead. Her last words: When the ships come...wear the necklace. Then the ships arrived.
Cities all around the world reported strange alien vessels descending. Some saw them as the heralds of a new age; others fired everything they had at them. All were taken as the beams lashed down and drew them into the sky.
Dean was left behind, seemingly the last man on Earth. A trail of clues left by his dead wife guides Dean on a perilous journey across America and beyond to learn the truth behind the mysterious ships and save humanity from its doom.
But not everything is as it seems.
The Event is the epic first novel by Nathan Hystad, creator of the best-selling Explorations anthology series.

Story good, narration questionable.
I did enjoy the story, but the narration isn't great. I find Luke Daniels' characterisation a bit weak and his delivery such that it sometimes all feels a little amateurish and lacking decent dramatisation (guess I'm just too used to the likes of RC Bray). I will persist with the series, primarily because I can see that later books will eventually have a different narrator

Slow start to the main plot...
Although I listened to this entire book from start to finish, (it took me 3 days to get through) and it was enjoyable enough to listen too, I didn’t really feel any connection to the lead character, Dean.
In fact, I felt more interested in the story arc of two side characters (who turned up much, much later in the plot).
Honestly, the story started slow (way too slow) for the longest while. Yet the overall plot has just enough interesting side-plots/twists to keep you interest for a while.

It was OKAY
Excellent premise but I felt it was poorly executed. Didn't prompt me into buying the second book in the series - at times it felt like a chore. Started to slow down significantly as the story went on, and became somewhat predictable.
Narrator's performance was on point but the book didn't give him any justice.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Did not inspire me to get the next book.
The Event – The overall story was good, but moved rather slowly. The characters were not as well developed as I would have liked. Luke Daniels did a great job but had less intensity in this book than he had in others. Unfortunately it did not inspire me to get the next book.

First contact might be the end...
Getting a copy of this book was kinda a no-brainer...
A first-contact story? Ummm... ✔
Whispersynced? Ditto ✔
Narrated by Luke Daniels... Yup! Yet another ✔
So I went ahead and grabbed it...
It turns out that this first alien contact maybe the end for the human race... For some strange reason, Dean wasn't taken by the alien's people-snatching beam! Dean teams up with his neighbors dog, and they find themselves rushing to Machu Picchu try to save the human race... The premise is a bit sketchy but there were enough twists and plot turns to keep me entertained... and I did enjoy the end of the adventure!
Luke Daniels, as per usual, did a great job on narration with this audio tale!

Great read and awesome narration..
I enjoyed this book a lot. It was about an invasion and the few people left on earth to save the billions of people taken by the aliens and put in containers and sent toward the sun so they could have earth.
The characters were great; Dean and Mary, Magnus and Natalia, and Mae near the end of the story, and Carey, Dean’s neighbor’s dog. A neighbor who didn’t make, along with billions of others.
Of course, this book left it open for the next book because Dean told everyone that “it wasn’t over, yet.”
There was no swearing to speak of and no sex so this book was definitely G-rated. And, unfortunately, G-rated books are really not my thing. In real life I’d expect a lot more swearing than “s**t” used two times when people are getting into all kinds of scary-crazy-dangerous-deadly situations. A good read but I won’t be moving on to the next book. This was written for YA and teens.
As to the narration: YAY! Luke Daniels! He’s simply wonderful. With voices and emotions.

Waste of good premise
The premise was ok in the beginning, but then the story got boring and predictable. A Lot of logic/science/reality errors. Characters were without any depth. I will not continue with this series. The performance was good (as expected from Luke Daniels), but it was not enough to save it.

A book that pulls you in!
I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy this book after reading the reviews. But decided to go for it anyways. And I am glad I did. I love Luke Daniels and as always his performance was exceptional.
I found myself staying up late just to listen to one more chapter, which then lead to another one. I usually don't write reviews, but felt that I should because if you enjoy science fiction...and aliens, then this is the book for you.
Next in the series here I come 😁

Had potential, but did not deliver
I wanted to like this book. Aliens, survival, plot twist - there were good ideas here, but the story telling was bad. The characters were very shallow. I couldn’t make a connection with any of the characters, the ‘action’ scenes were weak, there just wasn’t a good flow of the story - I just wanted to get through the book and get it over with. Don’t waste your time or money - there are much better books to listen to.
