Summary

Harriet Ashleigh, the much-loved eldest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Darlington, knows exactly what she wants from life. Just one simple thing: the freedom to be herself.

But for a young woman living in the 17th century, freedom is not such an easy thing to achieve. When her family’s future wealth and happiness are threatened, she wrestles with the realization that duty will have to be put before her precious dreams.

She finds herself forced to make a decision that leads to consequences she could never have imagined even in her worst nightmares.

Now she has to fight the whole of society not just for happiness but for her very survival, and she must take up arms in her own eccentric way with startling results.

The Eccentric’s Tale is an intriguing look at the remarkable private life and emotions of a truly unique woman.

Interesting characterisation

The excessive swearing and the female narrator playing Harriet as flippant and brash were both overdone. Harriet is brash but hardly flippant. Will Watts' narration was excellent.

Brilliant

I recommend reading this before the Ladies Tale, and after the main Jacobite Chronicles series. Although it’s technically a prequel to the series, its worth getting invested in the series itself, then read the Tales, then once you’ve done that read them all in chronological order!

Harriet…what a woman! Such a strong character you can’t help but admire. You’re with her on her journey of highs and lows, so beautifully created and written by Julia. Top Narration too. Bravo!
