Summary

An updated audio edition of the popular dyslexia book by Brock and Fernette Eide, with a wealth of new material.

‘Far from holding you back in life, the latest neuroscience suggests dyslexia maybe a real advantage—we just need to think about it differently.’
HEALTHY Magazine

What if we viewed dyslexia as a learning and processing style rather than a disorder? Reading and spelling challenges are actually trade-offs, resulting from an entirely different pattern of brain organization and information processing. Dyslexic people possess powerful advantages, including incredible pattern detection, creativity, problem-solving and more.

This revised and updated edition includes 18 rich new profiles of remarkable individuals with dyslexia. The enormous advances in dyslexia research over the last 10 years provide innovative insights for educators, employers, parents and dyslexic adults. Blending personal stories with hard science, The Dyslexic Advantage shares empowering advice on how to identify, understand, nurture and enjoy the strengths of the dyslexic mind.

Thank you!

As a dyslexic person, I found this heart-warming, inspiring and incredibly relatable. Every chapter and story held something I wanted to share with friends and family! At certain times I just felt seen, I couldn’t believe how accurately my thinking patterns, struggles and the coping mechanisms I devised at various life stages were being described! I feel emboldened and better equipped to push into my strengths and not let my areas of weakness be a barrier to trying again and again at what really matters to me.
I only didn’t love the narration.

Fantastic book. Horrendous narration.

Amazing booked and I’m loving it. The narrator seems to be going out of his way to make it difficult to follow. BiZarRe CHAngEs oF volUme pITch aNd SpEed. Quite infuriating and im sure I’ve spend more time skipping back than going forward.
Im not sure im going to be able to finish it.

finally the disleksic version of the book.

This book really highlights the strengths of dyslexic people and in my opinion people should focus on them and push the dyslexic kids to build their strength. As you can see from the stories in the books every dyslexic person has tried to avoid there weakness because everytime they have tried to read out loud or write in front of other people they have been made fun of. not much has changed in the modern education system, teachers still don't know what to do with dyslexia but the best thing to do is to let them follow their interests.

Let the kids find their own path, even if it's really difficult or even impossible. I'm sure you can tell I'm disleksic (and yes this is how you should spell it).

"I think, kids who have been labelled as learning disabled, but they’re actually super learners. They’re like learners on steroids who have some deficits to pay for their superpower. And teachers can’t deal with this. We label those kids as learning disabled to cover up for the fact that the economics of teaching requires that one central actor, the teacher, be able to lead a room of 20 or more people in lockstep." - Eric Weinstein

A must read for individuals and parents to understand dyslexia

I do that, I do that, that's me, I do that as well. As a result of reading this book I got tested and have discovered that I am seriously dyslexic - I'm over 50 years old, run a business and have written 4 books. who knew. thank you

Disappointed as a dislexic!

I have dislexia and the other D's and I was hoping for something inspiring, or reassuring, or to learn some tools I can use to help me, but I person found nothing useful here, nothing I haven't heard a million times, and they keep using super successful people as exempls, and it is frustrating for the majority that have non inspiring jobs and are just struggling.
This book could gave been a 2 hour podcast, I feel it is draged out boring listen.

Awful narration

I was really looking forward to this updated version of the book. I’m sure the book is very good, however unfortunately I’ve had to stop listening as the narration is so hard to follow.

The narrators voice jumps about all over the place. It’s so distracting I can’t follow the narrative. Such a shame. And a waste of money.
