About this listen
Stephen King's epic fantasy series, The Dark Tower, is being made into a major movie starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Due in cinemas February 17, 2017 USA.
In this first novel in his epic fantasy masterpiece, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most enigmatic heroes, Roland of Gilead, the Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner, on a spellbinding journey into good and evil, in a desolate world which frighteningly echoes our own.
In his first step towards the powerful and mysterious Dark Tower, Roland encounters an alluring woman named Alice, begins a friendship with Jake, a kid from New York, and faces an agonising choice between damnation and salvation as he pursues the Man in Black.
Both grippingly realistic and eerily dreamlike, The Gunslinger leaves listeners eagerly awaiting the next chapter.
And the Tower is closer....

I listen to audible books in the car for my drives to and from work (it's a long commute) and I'd always zone out of this book.
I restarted chapters a few times, but the narrators voice is as dry as the book. My apologies to George Guidall, the narrator, as I've listened to many a book with similar type narration, however for a dry, world-building book it needed a more captivating narrator IMO. I kept having to go back and re-listen, I couldn't tell you a single thing about the book or what happened in it and I listened to it for 11 hours or however long the book is on audible.
I've been recommended the series by numerous people, but I really struggled with this book. I don't know why I committed to listening to the whole thing TBH, I still want to explore the series so this might be one to physically read.
